Ideal boiler showing three diagonal lines help old lady panicking. Radiator back on guy has left with boiler not working she's 84.

searching on Google shows as an L3 fault - typically a flow themostat issue - but could be many others
why is the radiator OFF
did the guy leave and say he was coming back to sort out - or just left
did she pay him already
how are you involved - maybe you could contact the plumber on her behalf
maybe an air lock stopping circulation , maybe if he replaced the radiator and did not bleed/balance

I was with her I'm her daughter. He didn't ask for any money just left. He's gone from room to room bleeding radiators. Said it's a simple job with complications. Radiator off due to replaster. I'm fuming waited three days with no hot water while plaster dried. He wanted to paint wall as well.
There's plumbing tape around the valve to stop any leaks. I'm hoping he's not over filled the boiler. I might need to call an engineer. Waiting a bit till system settles and will try resetting again.

I'm no plumber but I guess the experts will want to know the model of boiler and whether it has pressure. Can you take a couple of pics and post?

It does sound like it’s possibly overheated. Allow to cool down and try again.

Hi thanks it's an ideal boiler that's all I know. How can it over heat when it not been connected?

Sorry I’m confused now

Can you confirm that the radiator is back on and the boiler has attempted to have been used?

Hi Thanks Yep left it for a couple of hours sounds funny radiators are working but one he's put back in bathroom is stone cold.

Update Ch has just made the most horrendous noise had to switch off. Is it because I tried to turn the radiator up or down.

Post a picture of the boiler. There are many many ideal boilers

Sounds like there may be a circulation issue and the boilers kettling as it overheats, that tends to be the 3 lines error on an Ideal. Is there a loft with Cold water cistern in it? Can you take a pic of the boiler with any naming labels etc.

If the other rads are heating up ok then it shouldn't really overheat just because one radiator isn't turned on. I'd be getting him back to sort it out TBH.

Hi some pics thanks

ok, sealed system on an Ideal Isar.

As suggested - especially now knowing it's a sealed system - there has to be something else going on. If all the other rads are heating up and just that one isn't then it's not going to be an airlock and that rad being off alone shouldn't cause the boiler to kettle/overheat. It's not going to be a valve off under the boiler as the other rads wouldn't heat up.

So we're kinda down to a lazy pump or a restriction somewhere if it's actually kettling. You're really going to need someone onsite to fault find further. I presume the guy that was doing the work wasn't a boiler engineer?

That shouldn't have been needed, boiler could easily have been kept on whilst one rad was off.
