Hiya, making a bar out of our Pergola and looking at roofing options. Do I go with flat clear panels or the corrugated ones, what is the benfit of each please? Are these easy to fit? Size needed is 2.5m squared. Where is a good place that sells them please.

At 2.5m square I'd question the usefulness of them unless you are going to cover 3 of the sides as well, rain in the UK doesn't always fall vertically.

Thanks for replying, I have built wooden walls on 2 sides so far and the front will be half height bar with vertical composite decking with the top half closed off with some flap door type jobbies I have yet to design, not decided on the last open side yet but looking at some tarp solution with eyelets for the winter months, not bothered if the roof is clear or not, probably siding with flat type roofing now so there isn’t the air gaps at the top.

Thanks for reading.

Picture of my progress below, I am in no way a joiner so please take this into account and be kind

Not sure the legs into the ground will stand the test of time as the pergola has been up the best part of 10 years already but I could always saw the legs off at the decking level and get some big lads in to move it in future if needed as the wood is quite heavy now.

I would suggest, box section galv., painted steel sheets, but whatever you use, it will need a fall/slope, for drainage. The joists, would also need to run at right-angles, to the run of the sheets, whichever sheets you decide to use.

The fall, would also need to run from the 'customer side', towards the back of the bar. As other suggest - it will need three sides.

I helped a friend done something very similar to yours last year. He went for the corrugated see though stuff that overlaps to prevent the rain coming through the joins. At 2.5M true size, you need lengths of 3m for slight overhang at front and more at the back. 3M is also a standard ‘ off the shelf’ size.
Get it online from one the corrugated roofing guys; they’re pretty much the same price - it’s the delivery charge that will dictate where you end up

Had a rethink after I saw my neighbours shed, they have some bitumen sticky tiles on their outhouse, are these a good option please? I don’t need light to come through, are they just fixed (stuck) to some OSB or similar please?

Evening, went for the metal none see through box profile panels, my roof area is 2.4m wide and 2.6m front to back (run off front to back), how do i make sure there is enough fall from front to back please? I need to run 2x1 across at 400 centres and could use a mix of 2x1 and 1x1. Asked chatgpt and it said i needed a difference of 225mm in height front to back???

TIA

Neither 2x1, nor 1x1 will be strong enough to fix those steel sheets to. An absolute minimum will need to be 2x2, because the sheets are fixed down to timber, with TEK screws, around 30mm long. They are a made for the job screw, hex headed, with a built-in flange, and rubber seal. They bolt through the center of the valley of the sheets.

If you are fitting single sheets along the 2.6m, no joints, then the fall is not so critical so long as there is a little fall towards the rear. You will need sheets longer than 2.6m, to allow for some end overlap.

I'm not clear on just how you are going to achieve the front to back fall at this stage - fall is usually designed in from the beginning. I wonder if the most sensible way to get the fall, might be to trim the height of the support posts, at the back?

The cheapest quote, for everything, including delivery, came from a company in Brum, called Mighty Structural Products, an actual manufacturer.

You have them quote for the number of sheets, the colour, the length, and how many TEK bolts you need. They make it up and deliver.

They alternative, is to order locally, from a limited colour range, and limited standard lengths. You then end up cutting them to the size you need, or do the lengths in two parts, with a wastful overlap.

Hiya, front to back 2.6m will be 2 sheets, how big does the overlap need to be please? This started life as a pergola which is fixed into concrete on all four posts, the current front to back wood I could possibly raise on the front edge? I have some 3x2 left over so may utilise this so the height is 2in taller (if that makes sense?) My sheets are 129x46CM, 2.6M is a larger overhang at the back so I could come in a bit I was just protecting the wood wall.

I also need to choose some Butyl tape for the joins, I think I need 10mm wide as that is the width of the upper part of the box unless it can be wider and cover the top and both sides of the box?

Thanks for replying and your patience so far

Get the panels made to measure, and cheaper (see my post above).

Joints don't need any tape, but overlap (if you must), depends on your fall.

Already bought the panels if I have the 2inch of the wood flat then I technically have 50mm is this long enough for the hex bolts?

Can you recommend some tape please?
