Trump has been publicly pressuring the Attorney General to prosecute his political opponents and some of those he holds grudges against.

And now, the first person on his list has just been indicted. Former FBI director James Comey. On some nonsense charges.

This is full on Banana Republic stuff.

Ironically, Comey was the man responsible for getting Trump elected the first time around, by opening the investigation into Hillary Clinton a few weeks before polling day.

Aye; Comey was pressured into that by the Trump campaign team. Come back to bite him, hasn't it.

On reading more about the case, it is utterly shocking.

The experienced prosecutors handling the case decided that there were no grounds to prosecute. So, Trump fired their boss and installed one of his own personal defence lawyers instead. That woman, who has never been a prosecutor and has zero experience, signed all the indictments herself, because none of the professional prosecutors in the department would agree to go along with it.

This is just an incredible violation of due process.

The USA is hurtling into authoritarianism.
