Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

to crack down on illegal workers. Card to be checked against central database to ensure its legitimacy.
I know I'm a bit late, and probably repeating ... but, illegal workers, or more specifically, businesses that hire illegal workers, aren't really going to be too bothered by a lack of ID card. Cash in hand, you were never here!

And thank the Lord for that (y)

Why, when you think we'll be living on Mars soon enough, do you think we can't manage an employment card?
We won't be living on Mars.

The Americans might be living on Mars, but guaranteed they won't be asking the British government to contribute, least of all for IT support.

How could that occur? It will continue to cost significant sums of money year on year, for maintenance, admin, security and the like. Contracts of hundreds of millions for support are already in place (some with companies like Hinduja Global Solutions, a subsidiary of an Indian conglomerate - no issues with data security there).

The cost of the system is estimated at £2bn. If it comes in at anything less than £15bn I'll post a video on this forum of me eating my hat.

There are no savings to be made anywhere. People will still need passports and driving licences. This will cost a fortune and offer next to no benefit for individual citizens.
We pay maintenance and admin on multiple different identity systems already. Simplification means removing duplicate roles.

We pay more to try to integrate them without the basic underpinning of a build for purpose ID system.

A cheaper and more effective way to reduce illegal workers would be a massive personal fine for the owners, and closure of the business for good that same day, and bar any company directors involved from starting up again, bit draconian i know, but if they really want to clamp down on it ?

I wonder who knows best, an actual IT professional or Si_ who is not abd sadly seems to be wrong virtually every topic discussed

I would have to start washing my own car.

They do do that sometimes, certainly happened to a place near me a few years ago.

Probably a lack of resources though, same old story. We need to invest in our country if we want to take it back!

We're still going to have passports and driving licences and student cards and immigration certificates and nhs cards and oyster cards and everything else. There is no 'integration' between these systems.

Couple of immigration raids around here recently one a few days ago

Was working quite close to the raided premises
Done work in there for the land Lord on several occasions

All a bit OTT imo

It was imho due a malicious complaint
No one was dragged out or arrested

Unlike my mates place he rented out to some bloke years ago who than sub let it ( Turks) 3 of them were marched off by the scruff of there necks and arris of there trousers :giggle:
