Torey conference outcomes

The Greens essentially want to abolish private landlord ownership
Total bonkers idea.

The problems in the rental sector are symptoms not causes.

I thought Zack Polanski might be able to revitalise the left and be an alternative to Reform….but it turns out it’s just a niche party for ideologues. Missed opportunity

the direction of government policy seems to be a mixture of

a) what they think the public will vote for

b) trying to get back polling from opposition

c) what the party donors and lobbyists want

None of which is actually what the country needs.

Gosh, a very sensible comment, but to add I think that applies to the main parties

Whatever they say, they're not in any way obliged to do any of it, and can do things they never mentioned.

Starmer made all kinds of promises while campaigning to be leader and then PM, and has now disregarded almost all of them. Digital ID was never even mentioned but is now the big policy of the moment.

We know that the tories and labour are liars. The others are unknowns, so will probably win just on that basis, that they can't be any worse.

The problem in the housing market is first time buyers and supply

Eliminating Stamp duty solves neither
It plays to some voters in the south east who can just about afford to buy, but doesn’t level up elsewhere. The response by former Borris voters on the thread says it all.

He’s Corbin without the baggage. He will appeal to disaffected left wing Labor supporters. He will win over the younger vote, torey boys excepted.

2029:
Reform in power.

2030:
10 million immigrants deported
Net zero scrapped
Johnson, Blair, Kahn and Starmer in jail

One poll suggested quite a lot of support for Reform even among the young. They're as fed up with the nonsense as everyone else.

Usually a term of an actual labour government gives a dose of reality to those who think it's all going to be idealist sunshine and wonder. They stay out of power until a new generation comes along who can't remember the last time they buggered the country up and are daft enough to believe their promises.

The next election will be Reform vs Lib Dems.

Don't just look at one poll, look at the direction of travel. Labour and tories have lost all trust with the public, people want to try absolutely anything other than them, and I include myself.. Every poll, Reform are 1 or 2% higher, along with Lib Dems, while Labour and Tory just keep falling.

The tiny but noisy minority of rampant loony lefties are leaving Labour for the Green party, who are at last starting to get honest about the fact that they're communists hiding behind the eco disguise.

The polls aren't yet showing the effect of the digital ID announcement, which has been another nail in Starmer's coffin. Then the budget, then the May 2026 elections, it's only going to get worse for them.
Agree with this.

Ah, the old red vs blue thing. That game's over now, people have seen through it.

Does that include you?
