I think Digital ID is a wonderful thing

anybody scared of it obviously has something to hide.

Let's all deposit a set of keys to our houses with the police shall we. Why should we mind if they let themselves in to have a look around if we have nothing to hide?

And why should we worry about the keys being lost, stolen, or handed over to criminals in return for a bribe?

A driving license is the defacto default ID now, which is not mandatory. So there's no change there.

I won't use QUOTE blocks or " " to illustrate what you're actually saying there, as some people will express faux outrage, so I'll use a different font.

Introducing a mandatory ID "card" is no different from introducing one which is not mandatory.

For government purposes you need one way to prove who you are. Typically that's driving licence or passport.

Possession of neither of which is MANDATORY.

Just for fun I've set up my account. It took a while as I had to set up a new authentication app as I've changed phone, which meany I had to verify my ID which involved my driving licence, verifying personal details, a live face scan and two factor authentication.

Ive also linked my driving licence to the app, but right now that's only for information and doesn't replace my physical ID.

What's an authentication app or two factor authentication and where do you get a live face scan ---- you are talking gobbledygook

I'll willingly carry anything that is given to me for ID, but I'll not provide a highly intrusive smart phone just to facilitate a digital ID method. If the new digital ID needs a smart phone, then the state will have to provide AND maintain the phone

Maye you should try and find out what those things are. Nothing wrong with asking IT Minion what they are, of course, if he has the time and inclination to explain, but you've kind of shot yourself in the foot re the second of those by telling him he is "talking gobbledygook" just because you don't know.

I am personally aware of policeman making enquiries about people in whom they have an amorous interest.
Most database administrators require a high level police officer authentication for requests for and disclosing data about individuals.

If the local plod have access to such data, prepare for wide scale abuse of the system, and potentially many young females being subjected to unwanted attention.
