Carpet edge on staircase Question

Hello Experts,
So we have removed some wood paneling from the stairs, which were covering the spindles and now are wondering on how to tackle the edge between the carpet and the edge wood side floor, as previously this was covered by the paneling.
I wanted once the wood edge, nicely sanded and prep, to paint the same color as the spindle, but was wondering if we should use some type of stairs nosing/edging to protect the side carpet edge.
What are your thoughts?
Many thanks,
Jeremy

Carpet would normally sit below the low timber with it finished over carpet gripper , but you could have a carpet fitter roll the edge for a tidy finish .
