bit of advice needed.

The rent was deducted from my wages until i asked to pay him myself. as i thought that was wrong to do.
i do not have a contract of employment. and no accomodation is provided.
I have a tennacy agreement. which i had to ask for because i had to claim benefits when i got injured at work.
i have not paid any deposit.

I would move out but the rent for a similar house type is 670-700 per month and they again look like they have issues. the friend i share this house with does the same job i met him whilst working for the same firm. he has 2 young daughters who have my old bedroom the smallest room. but the external wall where the window is fitted you can see 3 large circles at the top, the dab... its aborbsing moisture and theres black mold forming. no solid dabbing has been applied, its been whacked on because hes got lads from his firm on daywork to do the job. and 9/10 dont give a toss. he hires alot of free out of school/college lads to train them up but treats them as skilled workers and pays them 50-70quid a day. to do the same work a man being paid 150 is doing. and then wonders why the works rubbish.

You need to move out and get away. New job, new place. This is not a healthy situation.

Really hope you can move on...

he takes 1.5% deduction from my total wage, and it does not show on my payslips ive asked him not to take this as it is illegal but he basically said, you either pay it or you find work somewhere else. he has a bill at the end of the year, and has around 50 lads working for him and charges everyone the 1.5% deduction to pay his end of year bill.
So do you get paid £150 gross, £120 a day after CIS?……That’s around £2,500 a month net

My advice would be to not make any rash decisions, as a start I would say sit down with paper and pencil and work out a detailed budget of all your expenditure. I know it’s boring and we all hate doing it but if you were able to reduce your outgoings and put money aside you would then have the ability to build up some savings…….and that opens up choices for you. A carpenter mate of mine, when I work with him, he goes to the garage / corner shop every day and buys a costa + monster energy drink + meal deal, he spends around £150 a month that way.

I can understand why you want to get out of doing drywalling, it’s flipping hard work you must be knackered every night.

In regards to the deduction:

I guess he is a limited company and he is deducting 1.5% to pay his corporation tax -part of which are his pay if he does it through dividends.

In reality he is paying you 1.5% less than the £150 gross

Sounds like slave labour to me. Contact the BBC they will either twist it so its your fault or send undercover investigators to take a look.

You need to find alternative employment and accomodation.

yes thats correct, i do get the majority of my tax back in april. but for example i earnt 25k, i do take my days off when i want, but its mainly when im too knackered to do the work needed to be done to earn my daywork. but the house with the damp and mold im pretty sure its making me sick more often than normal. Ive been ill/drained cant function properly within last 2 months 6 times atleast. lasting 3-4days. ive been to my GP theyve done bloodwork and not found anything. so im not sure if its the house or just how ****e my life has turned out up to this point. either one could be effecting my health

and i dont have time to eat whilst at work. no 30minute break or lunch break. if i take time to do this its out of my own time and ill be there til after dark. i usually buy a 900ml lucozade orange 1.70 per day. to give me enough to get through it. but thats all ill have til i can get home and cook my tea, but by most nights im that shagged i cant be assed and i will get a takeaway. i know i need to watch my spending but at the same time feel i deserve to treat myself. if i really watched what i was spending life would be even more depressing.

Its the industry, inflation happens every year. but the prices per sqm we get offered never change. and they use excuses like oh we have to fight for contracts so lowest bid wins, thats why it never moves. I could earn the same £150 per day 10 years ago. at which point i would be okay. not struggling. I challenge anyone to work 5-6 days a week 6.45am-4.30pm for £150 grafting away no lunch break built in. then get taxed 20% + 1.5%. then come home to a damp moldy rat infested gaff with floors thatll end up giving way and crushing you to death in your sleep. 8 years of this is enough for me now.

its the amount of work i have to do to earn this £150, its not physically possible for everyone, and the lads that think it is possible. well within 5-10years, their back goes, knees, joints. you end up in pain and on disability before you know it. Health and saftey do not give a toss. as long as the jobs done theyre happy. blind to anything dangerous til a death occurs.

prioritise learning to drive. That is your gateway to more money and then think about options to increase your income through private work, bit by bit, you can then work towards being independent.

Your tenancy agreement should state landlords obligations and tenant obligations.

yeah I understand, Im not criticising any way, I know how hard it is on site doing any job but plasterboarding is a real killer

What you are experiencing is very common, you feel stuck in a treadmill and you are too tired at then of working each day to think about how to get out of it.

So heres the deal: you have to force yourself to sit down and say to yourself "what do I want be doing in 5 years time" -long term plans are the only thing that will get you out of it

Do you know what sort of career you would like? ............for example do you like working in the construction industry and if so could you change to do say general building or decorating or carpentry??

By all means use this site as a sounding board -theres loads of highly knowledgeable people on here to advise

If you do put a plan of action together, you will feel a whole lot better

Biggest step you can ever take, is OUT OF A RUT.

Hope you get a break, ask all your mates, something will come up.

Your employer - sounds like he's making more from your work than you are.
But don't let on you're leaving too early.
