Had one in my old house before doing a proper extension. It's a good cheap way of adding a room to the house, but the regs have changed a bit. You have to have proper doos separating the room and a separate heating system. If you have permitted development, I would spend the extra on a proper extension perhaps with some velux windows and sliding doors. You can get the cost down by having fixed windows instead of bifold. The other option is a SIPS kit build, which might be cheaper.

Aren't them SIPS things garden rooms away from the house?

SIPS can be used for extensions too.

big problem for conservatories is the heating cost..
3 x 3m room with a U of 1.8 which is reasonable for a double glazed conservatory, is going to need about 2kw+ of radiators
the same room built to "code" with some velux windows and sliding patio doors will need a small 500-800w radiator.

Nobody has conservetories any more. OMG I would be embarrassed to say I had one, however iif you do get one I would stick a heat pump in it as in the summer they are unbearable and freezing in the winter. I stuck a heat pump in ours and we had xmas dinner in it. I would stick your money into another part of the house if I were you.

FIrst fix or all done including floor, some lights, radiators sockets etc.

UPVC aluminium or hardwood?

I reckon first fix for UPVC, £10-12k

or this

glass roofs are very noisy when it rains

We just had 4 new PVC windows in anthracite and a new rear door. Cost us 4k so I would say double that at least, 9 to 10k.

If it comes in at 10k I'll be shocked, she might make me go through with it.
