I’m currently taking some meds for a back injury, it’s quite a regime. One particular drug, a nerve block, must not be stopped. The private hospital gave me 2 weeks (the drug is actually cheaper private than NHS) and sent a letter to my GP, it’s been sat waiting for approval for over a week.

I’m down to my last 3 days. I know there is an emergency process, but surely a GP would know that stopping this drug is dangerous.

I order my repeat meds through the NHS app. Have you checked whether you can do that on yours? Your doc may have added it on there.

Yeah. Follow the NHS app but we have to phone and leave a message with the prescription team at the doctor's. Can't contact them directly unfortunately. Monday morning phone the prescription team at doctors

Yes the hospital added it to the app, it's "awaiting GP approval". I assumed that it was already approved when it was added.

I suffer with a really bad lower back. Can be debilitating at times. Hope you get it sorted out....
I have re-herniated my L5. More pain than I have ever experienced. I had a root ESI a week ago, but it didn't really help. I think I will ask for a micro discectomy. But you have to give it 10-12 weeks to see if it fixes itself.

They don't let you know if there is a problem. Maybe it was rejected so ended up in bin.
We chase up after a few days as you can't sit back and wait. Normally a GP will sign off in 24h.

I'm not really used to taking regular meds, so I end up going oh sh*t I've only got 4 days left when I do the request. The back surgeon told me not to stop the nerve block, so I will call them Monday morning.

The plus side , is I've lost 4kg, as the pain meds are appetite suppressors

I have tried everything.....nothing really works......currently seeing an Osteopath.....

I had the same injury about 10 years ago and for me, lots of yoga, pilates, body balance etc was essential. I absolutely, hate it, but have to do it. I know exactly how I caused the re-herniation, so this was completely avoidable

Do you know what is wrong with yours?

Worst case ring 111 and they can book you in through A&E .

You could just turn up at A&E but through 111 seems quicker.

Different case, but after I fell from a ladder, 24 hours later I rang 111 and they booked me a check-in at A&E in 2 hrs. Arrived and checked in, waited 15 mins (in a crowded waiting room) and spoke to nurse who checked me over and sent me to minor injuries. Was treated, issued prescription, booked to ENT in 2 weeks.

My brother did similar having travelled without insulin.

If you have documentation, considering the meds have “recreational” benefits, I would take that.

Ouch. That looks nasty. I had 9 months agony with a pinched sciatic nerve root. I learnt to never again tell someone with a back pain to man up.

Thats the one, feels like someone stuck a hot scalpel into the calf muscle and beat my thigh with a baseball bat. How did you fix it? or did it just reabsorb over the 9 months.

I kept active and tried to not take any pain killers. You need to know when it hurts so you dont agitate it. As you know an injury like that just about stops any training. Decline bench got pretty good. You need to do stuff to get blood flow moving. Discs get very little help to heal. Your core can switch off to some extent and needs to be stimulated. I spent 10 mins a few times a day sat on a reebok ball gently bobbing up and down. I started DLs as soon as it was comfortable. Small sets tiny weight. Hammy stretching throughout the day and planks. It really was two steps forward then one back.Dont let that get to you. Half the job us in your head. Obviously you need to rule out any medical issues that might be relevant to your activity. All the best with it

The ball is a good idea. I will look in to that. The surgeon gave me 3 options:
- do nothing it will probably heal on its own with conservative therapy
- Root ESI which I have had and it din't really work
- Micro-discectomy

Last time I rehabbed it with exercise trying not to carry heavy weights in compression. Parallel dips were pretty good, could do a set of 6 with 50kg hanging off my belt. The feeling of the traction was nice.
