I mentioned before about a friend who was intending to fly back from Vietnam in a few days time, and another friend trying to fly to Australia to visit family.
Dealing with the intended return from Vietnam first, I've been looking for flights around the 11 March:
Hanoi to Birmingham over £2,000
Hanoi to London over £1,000
Hanoi to Paris, a few options via Addis Ababa, around £600, but with three stops, including some self-transfer, possibly airport transfer, total journey time over 30 hours and additional charges for any luggage. It's more like a backpackers voyage of discovery.
Saigon to Paris over £2,000
The one-way economy ticket to Saigon cost about £500 nearly a month ago,
For the other friend's trip to Australia, the cost of the ticket was refunded, but I hate to think what a replacement ticket will cost now, going the eastward route.
I suspect the better option now is to fly the westward route via texas, which might still come in at about £2,000, economy, return, with something like 30 hours total journey time. if you're lucky enough to find a seat. Premium economy is £15,000, and Premium £30,000, with just a few seats left.
On another note, I can't believe that Emirates are selling tickets for flights from London to Australia, via Dubai for tomorrow!
