Who thinks Labour are doing well?

Explain to us why the rise in government bond yields is primarily down to government policy.

Because of the market's concerns over high government debt levels and government policies that are stoking inflation. It's a good barometer for the confidence the lenders have in the economic stewardship of a country. Surely everyone knows that?

To answer the original question, I think Labour is doing very well with its net zero policy under the stellar direction of Edward Miliband, who in my opinion should be made a Sir for all his amazing work in this area.

He's answering energy questions right now in the House of Commons and boy is he a class act.

So yeah, I'd say one thing Labour should be applauded for is their net zero and wider energy policy. Don't you?

;)

I’ve paid several millions in. Eventually, enough is enough, when half of your earnings go in tax and they put their hands deeper and deeper into your pockets. I can reduce my “income” by 2/3rds and my tax bill by 95%.

Dear Rachel, sorry for your loss…
SNP up here call it a 'progressive' tax policy ;)

Code for we want to tax the workers as much as we can, tax 'the rich' even more, so we can bolster the benefits coffers for all the layabouts.

i originally thought this would be a pointless thread as no reasonable too and fro with reasonable points on both sides being offered and in general i was surprized at the fairly mature adult levels off perception until ivors blinkers stopped him registering "any" positives :giggle:;)
I said "nothing substantial". The words are there, if you choose to read them.

So absolutely nothing to with anything going on globally?

Ha ha, it's getting like 2008 all over again. Everything goes tits-up under Labour, they blame the rest of the world.

All part of the normal procedure.
Labour definitely can be blamed for some things, but not global factors.

Do you think Labour was responsible for all the subprime mortgages and Lehman brothers collapsing which lead to the 2008 financial crisis?

In terms of debt and deficit, the UK wasn't doing too bad up until 2008.

Yeah yeah, heard it all before.

We had plenty of sub-prime in our own system, including Northern Rock.

We always end up with economic calamity when labour are in power, and there are always excuses.

Labour is doing very well under its own terms of reference. Millions are paid not to work whilst those that do work are taxed to death, and the country is trillions in debt.

Because of the freeze on tax thresholds, the working person is £700 worse off, in real terms, than they were in 2021.

On the other hand, if you are on benefits, your benefits have gone up 28%, in that same time, to match inflation.

In hard times, such as we are being led to believe are coming, Labour ensures that the scrounging class is kept happy while the workers struggle.
