Hi All

Woke up this morning to find holes in my two hydrangeas. Definitely not there yesterday. We had loads of rain yesterday (and today), so assuming resident slug population?

Whether it’s them or caterpillars etc, does 13 May have some special place in their calendar?

Views much appreciated as always.

Have a look under the leaves and have a look late at night and see if you can catch em, as far as I know they are not really susceptible to being eaten espicually by slugs - I have never seen a snail or slug on mine.

Thanks. Just checked (23.47) with a torch and can’t see anything lurking under the leaves. Weird that it/they only started munching last night.

Not sure about slugs, as they like to work from the outside-in, nor snails...but earwigs?

Too early for aphids.

A puzzler.

Hi All

On reflection, I think it may have been the terrible sleet we had yesterday. (Spotted some of the damaged foliage on the ground) Will those holes stunt the growth of the flowers?

Thanks

Just checked mine and I also have a few holes, I have never seen slugs or snail on it. A few holes will not harm the plant, sleet or hail will not put a hole in the leaf

Thanks. It’s weird that all my holes occurred in one night! Noted re your comments on impact on plant health.
