I have a slight leak on the this double pipe fitting on the top left of the picture. It seems to be where the whole fitting threads into the top of the cylinder. Is it possible to disconnect the 2 pipes and using a large spanner unscrew this fitting, clean everything up, wrap thread with PTFE and screw it back in?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Oh my - oldy but goldy - anything possible - but it could be a struggle to get the large cap off that cylinder. It will either go ok or it will burst the top of the cylinder.

That will need a pair of stilsons and possibly some heat but again, that could compromise the cylinder.

A very old hot rod. I bet @gas112 installed that one
lol memory lane we used to find them just dangling over the side into roylats .

.
OP if your going to attempt to get it out get a hacksaw blade and get it into the washer between it and cylinder and cut it out carefully then a bit of heat on it and an immersion spanner , But are you positive thats where its leaking from can see a bit of furring up on the back connection .
It would be a bit unusual for the washer beteen the 2 to start leaking after probably around 40 years
