I appreciate your attempt at a play on words, if that what it was.
A bi-election could transform into a tri-election. But a by-election couldn't.
Or a bye-election could be awarded but not won, and a by-election could not be awarded.

take a cricketing term, a bye is a score for no contact.
Taking the political use of 'by' it refers to 'by the rules'.
But the prefix bi means one of two halves, or comprising of two parts, ergo a bi-cycle, binoculars, bi-ped, etc.

It’s his failure to declare it. If your Russsian neighbors gave you £5 million would you accept it without question

They're easily confused prefixes. Knowing the meaning for each helps to improve English grammar.
But it's a gag that would work well verbally.

Only the other day,I used the old gag, that I'd used before when there was no social media anywhere available.
I asked , "are you going to play that solo from memory?"
They asked "what solo?!" with a look of horror on their face.
Then I pointed to the music in front of them, "Memories from Cats."
You can imagine the colour returning to their face.

But when I tried it in written form, on social media, the other day, the damn social media shot up at the top of the post, a scene from Cats, with the lyrics, "Memories, all alone in the moonlight".
It completely ruined the gag. :mad:
Sometimes gags don't work well in written form.

It will be wasted if it reports after the by-election.
Even if farage has to seve his expulsion.

Apart from "the roolz", the issue is that if Fromage ever got to be in power, he could divert our money to his benefactors.

Remember when Bliar was accused of getting through human rights legislation that directly favoured his wife's law practice? Same principle.
 
The rumour Farage quit so he could accept more gifts from wealthy donors is completely without foundation.

More than equally as bad (I know an oxymoron ;))
If I accepted a donation of £5 mill, and I did not declare it, it would be tax evasion which is a criminal offence..
So if it was a personal gift, did Farage disclose it a such. and pay the appropriate tax on it?
