So far he is buying popularity with daily giveaways.

Raising the Personal allowance is a great way to buy votes, but it's roughly 1Bn per £100. He is also talking about a 50p tax rate. It's a no brainer for a leftie to tax the small number of wealthy to fund give aways to the large number of Labour voters. Of course it typically ends up in the wealthy restructuring and net loss of tax.The strongly hinted at rise on the tax threshold was short lived.
And most of that can be attributed to the short termism of changing governments/ideology...Annual Project Write-offs: In the 2024–25 financial year, the PAC found that £6.6 billion was entirely wasted on ditched government projects and changed priorities. This included cancelled infrastructure programs and the abandoned Rwanda deportation scheme.
This should be plastered all over buses and billboards across the land.

Wow something i feel we can all collectively agree on yes been saying this for years on here, get rid of 'the opposition' use a round arena for debate not two benches opposed like a claustrophobic football stadium. And most of that can be attributed to the short termism of changing governments/ideology...
What is needed is more cohesion and cross party support when it comes to issues which by definition are longer term projects...
Something that Burnham has strongly hinted at with his assertion that politicians are failing the UK.
The daft thing about airport drop off charges is they say its to help reduce climate emissions.Wow something i feel we can all collectively agree on yes been saying this for years on here, get rid of 'the opposition' use a round arena for debate not two benches opposed like a claustrophobic football stadium.
The problem is this lot have already shown the same behaviour as the past, serving the public is bottom of the list, serving themselves then the party then public. NOONE should be allowed a job in the Cabinet if either of the first two are believe to be beyond reasonable doubt.
I was thinking about this last night, how long has he had to roll out this **** show of weak offerings.. here's mine, would you vote me tomorrow over Andy, this is what i would do straight off. All of this would actually make the public sit up and believe Andy was able to understand the public and without hitting the tax revenue and or insulting us.
A Fair Deal for Everyday Britain
People are tired of being charged simply because businesses know they have no practical alternative.
A family dropping someone at an airport should not be charged £10 for stopping for a few minutes. A passenger who has been required to empty their water bottle at security should not then be charged several pounds to replace it. A motorist should not receive a £100 demand because a parking app failed or the payment signs were deliberately confusing.
These are not luxuries. They are ordinary, everyday activities where consumers are being exploited because they are temporarily trapped.
My government will therefore introduce a Fair Deal for Everyday Britain.(no taking children out of poverty bs here.. a complete nonsense)
Fair airport charges (this will apply to EVERY UK airport not just manchester!)
- At least 15 minutes of free drop-off and pick-up time.
- A nationally capped maximum charge thereafter.
- A 24-hour payment period before any penalty can be issued.
- Protection from excessive camera-enforced penalties where signs or payment instructions are unclear.
Airport essentials guarantee
Every terminal will be required to provide free drinking water refill points after security.
There must also be at least one readily available bottle of still water priced at £1 or less.
A basket of essential products including water, baby supplies, sanitary products and common over-the-counter medicines MUST be sold at prices broadly comparable with the high street.
Business to Customer Support Charter (Spain etc already has something like this)
Every company providing goods or services to UK consumers must meet minimum customer service standards.
Customer service should not become a test of endurance designed to make people give up.
- A free customer contact method with no premium-rate telephone numbers.
- At least one real-time support option, either live web chat or a staffed telephone line.
- All written enquiries acknowledged immediately and responded to within 24 hours.
- Clear escalation routes where an issue cannot be resolved at first contact.
- Named accountability for unresolved complaints.
- Automatic compensation where regulated service standards are repeatedly missed.
End to subscription traps
No company will be permitted to silently renew a contract or take further payment from a customer's bank account or payment card without their clear prior consent.
Customers must receive advance notice before any renewal, clearly stating:
- The amount to be charged.
- The date payment will be taken.
- Any change in price or terms.
- A default cancellation policy applies unless the customer actively approves the renewal(Where no active consent has been given, companies must not collect further payment.)
Fairer private parking
No car park should be allowed to require customers to download a particular app simply to pay.
Operators must provide a practical alternative payment method, allow reasonable grace periods, and cancel penalties automatically where their machines or apps have failed.
Honest telephone and broadband contracts
The price advertised should be the price paid throughout the minimum contract.
If a provider increases the price during the contract, every customer will have the right to leave immediately without penalty.
Lower energy standing charges
Every supplier must offer a genuinely competitive low or zero standing charge tariff and clearly show customers which tariff would have been cheapest based on their previous year's usage.
Fair motorway services
Fuel and EV charging prices must be displayed before drivers commit to entering motorway service areas.
Charges for food and drinks adopt the same policy as Airports (anti captive audience abuse scheme)
All charging fees must be shown as one clear total before charging begins.
An end to nuisance charges
We will review unnecessary booking fees, administration fees, payment processing charges and other hidden costs that bear little relation to the actual service provided.
Britain should reward businesses that compete through quality, innovation and value not those that profit from confusing terms, captive customers or poor service.
This programme will reduce the everyday cost of living, restore trust between consumers and businesses, and demonstrate that government is prepared to tackle the small injustices that affect millions of people every single day.
This from AI:
The UK government explicitly loses or write-offs between £6.6 billion and over £120 billion annually, depending on how strictly "waste" is defined by official watchdogs and independent advocacy groups.

The thing is, you can drop someone at the long stay and they can get a bus. If you look at Gatwick South, thats a short walk from the carpark, in addition Gatwick has neglected to paint all its double yellows red, so nothing stops someone stopping on a double yellow to drop off or pick up a passenger. Even Heathrow is not massively inconvenient getting from the long stay. What I would like to see though is a day pass for Ubers, rather than them having to pay a dozen times a day.The daft thing about airport drop off charges is they say its to help reduce climate emissions.
Feel scammed yet
No they're not.Not belittling the cash amounts but, without context, the figures are all but meaningless.
The context being "out of an annual government budget of c. £1.5 trillion."
Therefore between 0.4 and 8% of the annual budget.
No they're not.
The UK is known to big business as 'treasure island'...The daft thing about airport drop off charges is they say its to help reduce climate emissions.

Gatwick parking/drop off is run by TIMES24 UK LIMITED, which is wholly owned by PARK24 Group...The thing is, you can drop someone at the long stay and they can get a bus. We also have to remember that the airports originally claimed these fees were due to Covid revenue losses.

and most of the criminals released early - considering the dodgy bunch of tax dodgers and fraudsters making up our gov it will be important to abandon this nonsense of getting locked up in a jailMy head is spinning with it all, I'm losing count. So what are we getting so far....................., few quid off our gas bills, few quid off our leccy bills, cheap bus tickets, er, cuddly toy, fondue set, heated rollers.........
