Rubbish. They never budgeted for Digital ID anyway.
If I decide that I'm going to spend £10m that I don't have buying a new yacht tomorrow, then later decide that it was a stupid idea so I won't... Do I then have £10m that I don't currently have?
It's financial conjuring.
Similarly, today he's said he's spending some net zero money on subsidising bus fares. We couldn't ever afford net zero anyway, it was never going to happen.

Maybe at some point he'll be able to get a better deal with the EU as a first stepping stone to recouping that £90bn+ per year currently being lost

We're spending more than we have. So someone somewhere has to lend us money, every day, just so we can keep the lights on. These lenders all compete against each other, but assess the risk level of lending us more. The world has decided that it's riskier lending to the UK every day since Burnham became an MP. Now the rate of increase is rising.
There's a real and rising risk of the UK going bust, so they are pricing in the risk.
We could ignore the bond markets... but only by cutting spending so we don't need to keep borrowing more every day. Otherwise we're entirely under their control.

And you've completely ignored my fundamental point: they like things just the way they are, and God forbid that the plebs get any uppish delusions.
There are alternatives to the bond markets.
Like there are alternatives to the petrodollar.
And the both are going to fight like hell to keep the alternatives from getting the upper hand.
It's nothing to do with what anyone thinks about working classes or whatever. It's just whether we're living within our means, and we are definitely not doing.
We're borrowing to pay the interest on our previous borrowing, the country's finances are an absolute wreck. There will be a death spiral at some point, where the rate will rocket up, and it seems likely we're around that point.
There's no problem with the working classes becoming richer or whatever, it's just that someone has to pay for it. So far all we've had is new spending commitments every day, based on non-existent cuts of things that weren't budgeted for anyway.
The thing you call "austerity" was actually the recovery from the previous Labour government's financial catastrophe. There wasn't an easy way out of it, but it would have been massively worse if spending hadn't been reduced.
It was the tories who called it "austerity".
I was merely using their word.
And, as you wouldn't say, the national debt tripled in cash terms, and almost doubled as a proportion of gdp.
£132 billion a year might be a bit strong for a payday loan.
I'm in favour of a nons-moking policy on public transport, believe it or not.
I hated getting the bus when i started work way back when it was allowed: a terrible fug to be fought through on a wet day when the floor was slippery and the only way you could find a seat was through instinct and blind luck.
The Tories are wondering where the £500mn needed to fund the scheme will come from and most folk don't care, i reckon.

We have had £2 bus fares in Manchester for a while now, I don't know if it makes any difference. Most people who use the Manchester buses do not pay anyway, they all have some sort of concessionary passes, which we all pay for. The bus experience is most distressing, but OK if you like to hear several different foregn languages jabbering aggressively at each other or into phones, amid the smell of cannabis. Queues are non-existent in the city centre, just a third world scrum at every stop. Manchester bus drivers are unsung heroes.

How does he compare to the previous unelected wet wipe Rishi Rich. Both of them promised preferential treatment to their home town. What about actually making your average hard worker believe they are not just an overly abused tax source. Nothing.
Okay alright sarted got those concessions out there making me look generous like..next we tax in an unashamedly Labour way.
Tax relief in the most benign way possible, then tax where it maximises revenue and fcks annyone earning enough money to pay for themselves.
