The Spectator

I've subscribed to the Spectator for several years. It's a good paper, plenty of political analysis. Yes, it's a right wing Conservative leaning publication, so?
Douglas Murray and maybe other are pro Israel so their articles will always have a slant to them, it's never struck me as a 'muslim bashing' paper.
Sales of The Spectator are at an almost 200 year high, audited figures show The Spectator was the only current affairs magazine to increase both digital and printed sales in 2025.

The 'Centre for Media Monitoring' was formed by the Muslim Council of Britain.

I may well sign up . Never give it a thought before.

I may never have done if Odds and never put the Spectator in lights.

Odd or not, he is a very useful source of information.

I've got the printed and online subscription. Printed version comes every friday so can be a bit out of date by the time you receive it, also, you may have read much of the content online by the time you receive the magazine.
Normally there are some good deals for the online only.
About half the mag is political analysis, essays, opinion etc, half is the arts and literature etc.

The dictionary definition of a spectator is a person who watches an event without taking part in it.

When Rod Liddle, for example, offers an op-ed on a protest march he colours the event with his own viewpoint that's invariably skewed towards an ideal of 'Britishness' which conforms to a stereotypical image, embraced by right wing enthusiasts around the country. This, then, is passed off as a consensus by other right wing publications which amplify the message to a wider audience who perceive themselves to be threatened by this religious group who do not fit into their world view.

A century ago, the Daily Mail cast Jewish refugees in a similar light. Now, Muslims face a similar diaspora and persecution.

True.(y)

Adjusting for age shows that the proportion of foreign nationals in prisons is actually lower than that of British citizens. While non-citizens are historically overrepresented in specific categories like drug and fraud offenses, they are underrepresented in robbery and violent crimes. The Migration Observatory at Oxford University provides further details on these conviction discrepancies.

6: On balance, the evidence does not sustain a blanket claim that illegal immigrants in the UK commit more crime across the board; some specific local effects (e.g., property crime near asylum accommodation in some studies) and the involvement of organised criminal gangs in smuggling are documented, but these findings sit alongside large data gaps and important confounders such as age, employment and duration of residence that change the interpretation of raw conviction counts.
