I can't make my mind on this story..

On the one hand the plagiarism in his PhD thesis and lies on his CV are widely reported and obvious on the other was he targeted originally by a journalist because hie was black?

Originally the Journalist who started contacting him about inconsistencies was reported to the police for harassment with a racial hate motive, but as Cambridge's youngest black professor, he perhaps should have anticipated the scrutiny. I wonder how many PhD have significant plagiarism?

He seems a very positive upbeat guy who fell somewhat short of Cambridge academic standards. The pathological lying elephant in the room is however Trumpf.

Plagiarism software is routinely used in academic/undergraduate work but the PHD he is alleged to have "borrowed" from was an obscure work which might not have been digitised. AI will eventully catch up.

How is Trump involved with this?

My understanding is that there was absolutely no racism towards him. He was getting investigated for fraud by a good journalist who was just doing his job.

He was the one who cried racism. Which IMO is the very worst form of racism, on his part. He was saying that white people can't criticise black people or they'll get persecuted for racism. This is a growing problem, and needs to be rightly guarded against by the authorities. They should have asked him what specific things were racist, at which point he wouldn't have had any evidence. But the two tier system just went along with him.

The only race-related angle to this story is possibly that Cambridge's DEI policies heavily biased them towards hunting down someone black to dilute their all-white professors. So they probably overlooked lots of concerns in order to get their diversity numbers right. That should be a lesson in the harms that are being done across all employers who go along with this DEI thing, who are now choosing to employ people who are less suitable than others.

My understanding is the opposite, unfortunately when good journalists did investigate him the story went nowhere.

Only when the self confessed racist Nathan Cofnas did a quick hack job scan of his PhD and found probable plagiarism. Only then did it come to the attention of a Telegraph journalist who followed through in depth.

So yes, mixed feelings about this.

written in 2015, but I agree about the academic standards. I would guess it would be unusual for a polyversity graduate to make Cambridge as a professor. Perhaps he was a target because of some belief of positive discrimination/action,

I've seen the analysis done by multiple people of good standing with multiple lenses. However, this does not mean he wasn't targeted.

The most recent incident seems highly likely to be targeted because of his race. And in this case they found lies upon lies.
