There were two stages: were his cv/phd and other relevant claims accurate, secondly was his appointment positive discrimination?. If he fails at the first hurdle, the debate around the second is scuppered because positive discrimination or not, he got the job on the basis of a flawed cv.written in 2015, but I agree about the academic standards. I would guess it would be unusual for a polyversity graduate to make Cambridge as a professor. Perhaps he was a target because of some belief of positive discrimination/action,
