Putting up shelves on a stud wall

Do they not come with instructions? if not confident with fitting, he would be better off employing a local handyman.
How do you know it’s a stud wall?
Looks wide enough so that it would fix somewhere along it's width into 2 studs.
Mark where he wants it to go on the wall then use a tiny drill bit and select several of the holes to locate the studs. Filling those that have no studs behind. Plus, shelf will also hide those filled holes.

Built 4 years ago, flat. Internal wall. Knocked it. Pretty sure friend said it was too. Aren't external and neighbour's wall all breeze blocks batoned and plasterboard and internal walls studs?
But must be able to guess roughly where the stud is measuring the 16 or 22 inches (every stud) from corner?
Normally set every 400mm or 600mm apart.
If the plasterboard is fixed to the wood with screws, find the screws with a magnet. This tells you where the studs are; confirm by drilling small holes (as above) where they will be hidden by the shelf bracket. Screw into at least one stud; if you can’t find a suitable second stud, you could use a plasterboard fitting of some sort if the load on the shelf will be modest.
You should be able to hit 2 studs with 4 screws which is enough , you can add additional plaster board fixings .
Actually wall separating neighbours in flat do not a stud wall, I guess baton on breeze blacks then plasterboard so I used 100mm screws. I used the 65mm duo plugs instead of shorter ones. My 6mm SDS drill is a bit bent, I guess get a new one?
Just bend it back with a hammer.
