Hi all,

We've made all the necessary preparation, got a stud finder, did the tapping test, measured and got a spirit level to even everything out. We found a stud to drill into our drywall but after a bit the drill started resisting and we can't seem to find any evidence of wood.
We tried the nail stud test but the nail doesn't seem to go in further as well.
We measured the ends of our wall and it should be 4 inches thick.

What do you guys think we have hit? Possibly wire casing?

Push a narrow screwdriver in and wobble it around. If it feels rough it is brick. If it feels smooth then you are probably right and it may be capping.

Shelf is unsuitable for plasterboard on studwork, even if you find a stud it does not give enough support, entire brackets need secure fix.
