Bathroom Extractor Sizing

Hi,

I wanted to replace our original bathroom ceiling extractor fan as it currently sounds like a chainsaw when fired up.

Does anyone have experience of recessed fittings/mounts? This is 150mm square but is recessed into the ceiling and screwed in horizontal rather than screwed in vertical.

All the replacements I've seen are also 150mm square but are vertical mounted.

I’m fairly certain you can still buy those units and typically they last a very long time unlike lots a cheap stuff these days

You can easily fit a new one. Where does the duct go?

Ducted bathroom extractors most often run the duct through the loft space. Does yours?

Sometimes they run above a false ceiling, or more tricky, between the joists.

One on each floor and both vent into the loft and are approx 25 years old.

I haven't been able to find an example of horizontally fixed to a vertical placement. The direct replacement doesn't have the same fitting:

I was contemplating knocking up some sort of batten frame inside the existing cavity to allow a standard fit, rather than plaster work etc.

If they currently vent into loft you'll need to change that

Call vent axia and confirm where there stockists are - that’s by far the easiest solution

To be clear, they vent to the loft but then to external outlets via hose/tube.

That’s not 150x150 square though. Try this one - note “Solo Pro” not “Solo Plus”:

It is described as a replacement for the original Solo model. Insanely expensive though!

Edit: but apparently not flush-mountable? I’m confused. The “plus” that @Murdochcat has linked to is flush-mountable (I have a similar one, but not flush-mounted) but is rather larger.
