Crimping fittings

When you say "suitable", do you mean safe, approved, and legal?

XPress - Gas - Copper and copper alloy press-fit fittings for use on gas services with copper tube in sizes 15mm to 54mm

Let you decide

They are DVGW VP614 approved and meet the requirements of section 5(1) of gsiur

They're not suitable for soft copper

Until the latest IGE/UP/2 (draft) is ratified press fit for gas is only suitable to 28mm.

Yorkshire make larger sizes but by the book you cant use them .... yet.

Has anyone used Yorkshire's Xpress System?

Are there any advantages to using the Xpress system over plastic speedfit pipes and their fittings? Or would you guys sooner use Speedfit than Xpress?

Also, does anyone know how much the Yorkshire Crimping tools are likely to cost - this seems like it could make it a lot more expensive than Speedfit.

Its more the crimping v. speedfit issue that i wanted advice on ... i.e. i have read that crimping gives a tighter bond than plastic connections and that they leak less ... so i just wanted to gauge your opinions.

Would it be possible to crimp UK plastic pipes to cirmp fittings as opposed to using speedfit fittings? Alternatively, is there a UK manufacturer that produces non-metric crimp fittings?

Thanks!

Thanks Doitall ... that's really interesting ... its different to the Yorkshire system which uses copper pipe (this one has a multi-layer pipe with aluminium as one of the layers - this is the same as the one I saw on that US TV program).

Do you, or anyone else, have any experience of using this system ... and any comparisons you can make between it and other systems like speedfit?

Thanks again guys! :)

Yes we have used it on loads of jobs without a single problem.

Unlike plastic pipe this stays where you want.

One fitting I particular like is the rad tails, a length of pipe in chrome or nickel which goes straight into the valve from below the floor.

The hand tool is better than the electric as it gets into tight spaces better, and is just as quick and easy.

My only complaint is the size, you need fittings to convert to copper etc.
