Hi - this is my first post so hope someone can advise. I have to replace a leaking WC pan (hopefully there is a picture attached) It's old and looks like nothing you buy these days I believe it's called a "Shark" and is also connected to a (what looks like) cast iron soil pipe. The main issue for me is disconnecting from the soil pipe and lining everything up. I imagine I'm going to have to cut the soil pipe and find an adaptor to fit between the back of the new soil pan and the soil pipe. Could mean lots of bends as nothing easily lines up. Thanks for your help. View media item 1337

Nice!!!

You could go for 2 soil pipe elbows and a short length of soil pipe. See here for various bits:

Or you could use a Flexi Pan Connector (below).

This will allow you to make all sorts of difficult bends because, as the name suggests, it flexes. The effective working coverage on this one is 185mm to 345mm and is a 110mm push fit.

However, I cannot see your cistern. I assume it is either up above the toilet (a High Level with pull chain) or is it hidden behind that wall? If its behind the wall it may be worth knocking the wall out (its probably just a plasterboard wall). If that is so, then by knocking it out you will probably gain some space and be able to cut the soil pipe back a bit in order to make a neater finish.
For cutting a cast iron soil pipe you'll need either a cast iron pipe cutter or a grinder with a metal cutting disk.

    • Thanks for this - I like the idea of the flexi pan connector - will this push fit straight into the cast iron soil pipe once cut or is there more that needs to be done?

And cutting the pipe itself - is it possible with a hacksaw?

This loo is in my business premises and the cistern you ask about is a low level cistern sitting on top of a 'boxed in" area that hides an amazing multitude of sins! I hope I've included a couple more pics that might give some idea to the problem. First thing is Where should I cut the pipe? There is very little flexibility to move the loo backwards and if anything it may have to be moved forwards to make everything connect.
