can anybody give some advices on the purpose of a heat shield fitted on the outside wall above the vent from the boiler, has anybody got any sizes or dimension on what a heat shield look like , can i buy one

any help would be appreciated

am i right , can the heat shield be a type of angled plate fix to the wall to defect the heat away from the guttering

Yes and no.

Manufacturers Instructions specify what size heat shield and when its required to be fitted.

Yes and no.

boiler has been fitted for over 15 years, after a inspection there ask for a heatshield to be fitted , boiler outlet is only 400mm from guttering



Manufacturers Instructions specify what size heat shield and when its required to be fitted.
 
What boiler is it?

Id imagine at 15 y/o its a natural draught balanced flue so yes if its only 400mm below gutter then it would need heat shield
 
Heat shield should be 5mm below the surface that it is protecting and at least 1M wide.
 
Seen a house roof go up boiler had been fitted 15 years about a foot below eaves no prob or scorching customer then got new plastic sofits etc about 18months later it melted into flue and caught fire spreading into the roof.
From memory rule of thumb is within a metre of eaves and 1 metre wide . Also as G4Y has put don`t have it touching as it defeats the object
