no stopcock in the house and need to replace a kitchen tap

will try and keep this simple, my partner has been down his sisters today to replace a tap in the kitchen. We thought we could freeze the pipe so got some of the kits from wicks, since the pipes in the house were lead
we don't want the water board finding out.
We tried and they don't seem to work, have tried to turn off the water
outside at the mains but its full of soil etc and a brick.
The stopcock in the house it old and broke so we can't turn the water off
in the house.
Does anybody have any ideas how we can get the water supply off
or how we can do the repair

Find the stop cock on the boundary of the property and shut off there.
Make sure you replace the house cock at the same time!

Do you mean there is brick shoved down the hole or its a laid brick sticking out from the side underground?

the stopcock outside belongs [i think] to your water supplier. they should send someone [for free] to check it works and is accesable. why dont you want water co to know?

the brick is in the hole were the mains stop cock is , if we get the waterboard out the turn the supply off we will be charged ?

don't know the path was relaid a few years ago and mains hole seems to be full of rubbish and you can see a brick about a foot down the is blocking it

What you doing to do if you ever put nail through a water pipe (thats easy) and not fixed your supply?

If its still not fixed you will running around like cat on fire!!

They aren't obliged to supply you with a stopcock, or turn it off for you.
Different water authorities have different policies though. Some will do a lot free. Try asking them?????

A brick in a hole wouldn't delay a plumber for long, but the tap itself might not turn off properly anyway.
A plumber would probably get the inside tap turned, but a small number are impossible.
No problems freezing lead pipe if you know what you're doing, a disaster if you don't.
Sounds like you need a plumber!
