hi lightning, the fuss is that i've never done any plumbing before so things that may seem obvious to others just aren't to me. Even reading up and looking at tutorials online it doesnt always give you the full details - as an example, when i cut the pipe will there be water in it? will i create the dreaded airlock that i've read about if i dont take certain steps beforehand or after? I've never been into DIY through fear of getting it wrong and it costing me more in the long run to call someone to put my mistakes right but have decided its time to start trying to do to some of the stuff myself rather than keep paying people to do it. It doesn't help when you dont know your olive from your elbow! It's also a time thing - fitting an extender and screwing the pump surely would have taken a a lot less time (and chance of mucking things up) than cutting the pipe/fitting a new one
I wouldn’t change the 3 port, worst case I’d fit a ball and plate adaptor and new actuator and new pipe to the pump. Cut the pipe to the pump and reuse the nut, only need a new olive and 1m of pipe
