    Stair stringer issue

Good point. I’ll give it a go later. Thanks!

    Stair stringer issue

It was a cheap blade but there is some slight deviation on the wood. It’s only cut into plaster so no real damage to the blade. That sounds like the best option My only worry without using the track is running off the line. It’s an awkward angle to hold it easily. Is there anything that can be...

    Stair stringer issue

Hi I’ve modified the stair stringer in our house. It originally had a strange wavy decorative section on top, which you can still see from the old wallpaper line in the photo. That part wasn’t structural, and the stringer has been fully reinforced underneath anyway. I used a track saw to...

    Fixing stairs

I know but it feels like plastering this would be harder. I’ve managed to do most of it now. I’m just put off by how bad it looked with mesh before. I might do this for the bottom part of the winder though that’s not in the photos.

Yeah. Loads of reinforcement between the risers and treads now. Plus rockwool to help with noise and fire safety. Much quieter. Not silent but a significant improvement and expect it’ll be quieter still once fully plasterboarded and carpeted.

    Fixing stairs

Update on this. Finally got round to starting it this weekend. I’m struggling on the best way to board this in. I’m really trying to avoid using EML. The rest of the staircase is all but sorted. I’ve extended it outwards matching the angle of the side of the staircase (that’s what the mdf part...

    Fixing stairs

Yeah it was done with mesh before and it looked terrible. Krytens head would be an improvement. I’ve searched YouTube but they all seem to be pretty standard construction and this one seems a little unique.

Thanks. I haven’t heard of that before. Any tips on trimming the frame up? I’ll check out the plasterboard.

    Fixing stairs

Hey everyone Maybe an easy one for a carpenter but a challenge for me. I’d posted on another thread about plasterboarding my stairs as they had been done terribly with mesh before. But this is more a question on the carpentry as I want to get that right before I plasterboard. The stairs...

    Removing plaster from boards

Yeah. It’s certainly going to be a challenge! It’s all good experience. It can’t look worse than what was there before at least. I’ll report back with an update soon (I hope!)

    Removing plaster from boards

It’s been nearly 2 years but I’ve finally committed to doing it. I’m getting the carpet done shortly so wanted to rip it out so I didn’t cover the carpet in dust. There was a lot of it! The wallpapered bit at the bottom sounds hollow so I may knock that out too. I’ll make a small hole to check...

    Walls creaking from floor

Hi everyone I’ve got a dormer conversion. When walking in certain parts the walls creak. Usually this is because the sole plate of the wall is rubbing against the floor. However, being a dormer, there are steels either side of the floor boards. There are then wooden battens along the top of...

    Ceiling cracks

Thanks! Is this the sort of thing you mean? https://ebay.us/m/JV6c5w When you say foam packs, do you mean spray foam filler?

    Ceiling cracks

Thanks Wayners. I’ve got some scrapers but not a tungsten one. I guess as long as the width of the tape is cut back it’ll be fine whatever I use. Is it also worth driving some screws in along the joins where there are joists. I think they’re mostly nails holding it in which may cause some...
