    manhole cover and frame replacement

I had a very old cast iron manhole cover crack and I have decided to replace the frame aswell. The dimensions of the manhole itself are 480mm x 600mm, and I have had problems finding a correct sized replacement frame and cover. A new clarksteel 450mm x 600mm frame is not wide enough so I was...

Changing a ceiiling rose to junction box

I am changing the light in my bathroom and i need to remove the ceiling rose as the light I have got is flush to the ceiling. Am I able to use a 4-way junction box and push this junction box into the ceiling from below, the junction box would then sit inside the attic insulation. Is this ok?

Hi There should be a non return valve in the discharge elbow on top of the unit. This is basically a rubber flap that will open when water is pumped from the unit, and will close to stop any water backflowing into the unit from the discharge pipework. This flap can get stuck so you will...

    Underground Waste Nightmare

it is possible for a drain man to retrieve the rods by jetting downstream to rods and with some skill and luck get them back to the manhole you are jetting from (i have done this before) But seeing as you have excavated the pipework, follow 'HERTSDRAINAGE2010' instructions and all will be fine :)

What is this? Septic tank related

is it the lowest point of your property?i take it this is in your basement. Its a floor drain which there is a gully trap underneath (which is the water you say you can see from the hole) This drain line would normally run into your main line straight into your septic tank. Best course of...

    Constantly clogging sink

waste disposals are awful, use a the bin for food scraps!or expect blockages. Anyway, I take it you took apart the disposal unit and trap and you found no blockage.Sounds like the problem is further down the waste pipe, take the disposal off and snake the waste pipe :)

    Options with Blockage

have you tried a drain rod with the plunger attachment? plunge the gully real hard , do it hard enough and you may be able to shift the blockage even if its down from the gully trap. If you have a pressure washer buying a jetting hose to work it around the trap and into the line to get the blockage?
