    Solid floor replacement

Hi all, After some advise about what to do with the flooring in my house. It's a 200 year old farm house which has had a solid concrete floor laid in the last 15 years ( before I bought it). It's basically cold and I doubt there is any insulation beneath it. That coupled with an extension...

    2nd consumer unit

my point is, it was a off comment that got trolled on. I dont have to prove anything here, and anything I put im sure someone would find fault or accuse me of googling it. I was seeking advise on a area I have not worked in before and some people have posted some positive insightful information...

    2nd consumer unit

I thought this was forum of knowledge and not antagonistic behaviour. But if you must know my testing before was: is there a plug socket? - no and my testing after was, is there a plug socket now? - yes. seriously what do you take me for?

    2nd consumer unit

wow it looks like there is a lot of different opinions. To be honest, this is why I posted on here as I have had a difference in opinion between two qualified electricians. I have a good knowledge of electrics, I even put a new ring main in a while back, but im unsure of a few finer points. I...

    2nd consumer unit

Ok the Henley block looks good, and 3m length. What about mounting the 2nd consumer unit on the outside of the house?

    2nd consumer unit

No, I'm not an electrician and like I mentioned, would not do the connections myself. Im wanting to know the above information to choose a site for my second consumer unit and to plan the underground wire location. 90% of the work will be digging trenches and that is what I'm planning for.

    2nd consumer unit

I have a standard consumer unit which is full and would like to expand it to accommodate some outside lighting and power. Ideally I would like a second consumer unit mounted a distance away from the primary one. I’m not an electrician but want to plan and do most of the leg work. While Ill get...

    Cavity wall insulation

Hi, I am seeking advise on cavity wall insulation. My house is 90% Solid wall but in one of the bedrooms and maybe bathroom there has been a thermal brick wall built secured with metal things to the exterior wall. The gap is about 80mm wide and I would like to fill it for thermal properties...

    Internal insulation

Thanks for your reply Jamie (sorry delayed). While I fully agree that your solution is viable, I have an issue with the amount of space im going to loose. I then discovered a product by Marmox. Im not 100% sure on a few things so im going to ask a few questions: 1) I think I can attach...

    Internal insulation

Hi, I am about to start work on internal insulation on my old, solid wall house. Its quite damp on one wall in particular and I have some ideas on solving the damp (french trench, chemical damp proof course, fixing render etc) but my question is: What would be the best method of internal...

    damp in 1850 farmhouse

Ok, so it actually sounds like I shouldn't bother with a chemical damp proof course and try to dig a trench... What would you recommenced to do on the inside? eg thermal board? should I use a membrane there?

    damp in 1850 farmhouse

Actually the floor looks quite modern, its poured concrete with a plastic membrane under, I can see it at the edges. I dont think the floor was ever wood. Ill try the trench and see what happens. Whats the most servere proofing? Can bricks be removed and replace with a membrane like the floor?
