i had a similar problem which was cured by changing the venturi in the fan but other symptoms will cause this

My gas fitter didn't show today so i thought i would have a quick look i gave a gentle tap around the fan and inlet points but noticing some dirt in what i've now found out to be the flue sampling point i inserted my pencil to remove it not really knowing what iwas doing i reassembled the unit...
