    Spirit level recommendations

Just a little update in case it helps anyone. I got the Stanley ones as they were on offer. I have tested them and they seem accurate and pretty strong. I don't think I would want to use them if I was a bricklayer, not sure they would stand up to a lot of abuse. But for what I need they are perfect.

I do also have a 2 foot dewalt level which allows drawing a line across the whole length. The only thing i don't like about it is its 600mm including the bulky rubber end caps. The actual metal part of the level is 540mm which is a bit annoying sometimes.

Thanks Woody for your reply. I wanted the 1800 for things like door frames and stud walls. But i guess for the amount of time I'm going to do that a 1200 will probably do. I was also looking at sets like these Stanleys Fatmax or Stabila sets which include them.

I've never heard that joke before. :) I used to make press tools, but not in that field of engineering anymore. They decided to ship that work abroad. :(

Yes I am a DIY'er but I trained as a tool maker orignially, back then my general tollerance was 0.25mm. If I do a job I believe in doing it properly. My wife says I'm too much of a perfectionist. :D

All sorts really, from hanging mirrors to fitting bathrooms. I would keep my current cheap / old levels for garden / outdoor use, these are accurate to within about 1mm per meter, possibly better. Would just like some better ones for indoor stuff mainly.

Hi All, I have been researching Spirit levels I need a 1200 and 1800 level. Up to now I have been using a cheap set of a 600 and a 1200 which have been accurate and generally still are, but feel I need a better set. I know everyone will probably recommend a Stabila. But as a DIY'er they won't be...

    Flush pipe cone weeping.

Thanks. If i pull it out more it leaks badly. Where it is currently only weeps very slightly and not enough to drip. I didn't want to remove again for fear of creating a leak somewhere else as that's what has happened so far. I need it to last a year or so as I want to renovate anyway.

    Flush pipe cone weeping.

Yes the pipe is a tight fit to the cone and the cone is a fairly tight fit to the pan. It is only a slight weep. Could i put plumbers mait around it with it still connected or will that not work? Many thanks.

    Flush pipe cone weeping.

Hi all, I have been having a nightmare with a leaking toilet. Searched on here but cannot find my exact issue. Fixed them all except one where the flush pipe goes in to the back of the pan. It's a concealed cistern and was leaking from both ends. Fixed the cistern end and changed to flush cone...

    Re-painting render

Anyone able to advise at all please? Also what roller sleeve would be best. I was thinking a medium as it's fairly smooth? Many thanks

    Re-painting render

Hi All, Just looking for a bit of advise. I want to repaint the exterior render on my house while the scaffold is up for new soffits and facias. Generally the current paint isn't in bad condition, but it has started to flake in places. Mainly on the black areas. The previous owners left behind...

    Garage floor levelling

Thanks woody but would that stand up to using things like trolley jacks etc? Ive read that self levelling was no good for that, which is why I was thinking the grinding route.

    Garage floor levelling

Thanks. I was concerned about grinding too far and making things worse. I was looking at hiring a dust extractor too to keep the dust down a bit. I don't mind hiring one if that would give the best outcome for repainting. It's a detached garage so not too worried about the dust, I'd just need to...
