I don't know how you both knew.......... but it turns out the subfloor was more vinyl tiles- not a floating laminate floor as I thought! They've come up very cleanly, so with a little prep we should be good to go. Thanks for the help

It's a bit awkward to post a picture at the moment. The left hand side is (approx.) 20cm deep, and the right hand side is approx. 21cm deep. So it sticks out further on 1 side than the other. I can fix the amount it sticks out by tapering the window sill, but that might look stranger than now...
