Hi
Maybe a silly question. Flat roof - will overhang the outskin by approx 32cm. Of that - 20cm is a gully ( epdm lined ). All works a treat on paper :). My question - do the joists need to finish at the start of the cavity or can they extend into the cavity as long as they don’t touch...
that’s the bottom of the frame ( I think you’re referring to ). The side frames, I have cavity closures - but can I fit the frame flush to the front of the outer leaf or do I need to set it back? Maybe a drawing or two would help decipher my waffle - will post something…. Thanks woody.
Hi
Fitting 3x 4 panel French doors. 2.4m wide. Do these fit (almost ) flush with brickwork or do they need to be recessed? Can’t find anything definitive. LBC are inside with everything I’ve done up to now ( no small thanks to this forum! ) and would like the doors to go as well. No...
Hypothetical question :). Let’s just say someone was daft enough not to realise cable ties need to be every 300mm near an opening ( French doors ) and had placed them every 450mm. They are horizonatally fine but should have been every course near the edge. Now to add to that - let’s say...

Just realised I have had 3x SK90 cavity lintels waiting to be used and removing the roof ( single storey extension going to flat roof ) the cavity is only 75. Well, anything from 70 to 90 it seems. With help on here (thanks woody) I’ve stepped in to the main house - looks good - but now...
Woody - last question - would building control have a preference in extending the 75mm cavity under the beam into the extension (100mm cavity) - so effectively reducing the cavity width of the extension for then length of a block and a half ( assuming that’s sufficient distance from the beam to...
Thanks again woody. Toothing in by half a block will leave overhang on alternate rows , front and back - shades area in pic. Is that going to be ok or should i fill these? ( really so appreciate the advice ).
When you say bond - I assume there will be an40mm step in ( or out ) where the leafs join. Will that bond still transfer the beam load onto the second leaf? I don’t mind the step in / out as I will batten a false front - I just need that beam load to be fully spread / handled sufficient for...
We had a kitchen extension many years ago - and now we’ve widened the opening flush to the walls, steels are in. ( sort of ) and now I need to tooth in the extension to main house. On removing the nib it became obvious the cavity on the extension is different. Measures 90mm - main house is...
Beam in. Padstones in. Now I need to dry pack the brickwork above the steel. The bricks are frog down - any tips on the best way of tackling this? Or pack as any other but expecting to use more mortar.
