    Book shelves under the stairs

Pulling the bed apart does not really seem like a simple option here; at the other end the joints still attached although I'm guessing slightly damaged due to being pulled away at the other end. And yet it fell apart! Do you think that it hadn't been made too well in the first place?

    Book shelves under the stairs

Yes I think it has dried out, but there is some damage to the joint and the wood has been torn(sorry there is probably a technical term for these things) I think that it could be taken apart then stuck back more securely but I don't want it to happen again - I was wondering whether it could...

    Book shelves under the stairs

The bed broke of its own accord, possibly down to the ****e glue or poor joints, and it occurred total out of the blue surprising us both (as you can imagine). Honestly, we were asleep when it happened.

    Book shelves under the stairs

Hi I have a large area under my stairs where I would like to have bookshelves. I haven't done woodwork since school (a long time ago) but I was thinking that as there are so many gadgets around to help these days, that I may be able to do this myself. The space that I'm working with is...

    High pressure problem

Hi Folks We drained the system down and removed the filling pipe and this seems to have resolved the problem. Thanks very much for your help, its saved us a small fortune. :D Neil

    High pressure problem

Thanks Libby Removed the loop and switched the water back on. The valve on the other side wasn't a screwdriver slot; just a nut & I think that's been closed the whole time. No geyser, I'm pleased to say. The pressure is still high though - over 2 bar even with the boiler off for hours &...

    High pressure problem

Hi again The ladywife is working dawn till dusk today so it may have to wait until later tonight, but we will try to take the hose off after switching off the mains as suggested. sime10 and Softus: Here is a photo of the braided hose & valves. Its the one on the right I'm not sure as to...

    High pressure problem

Thanks for your quick replies. Do you people not sleep?!? Ok...yes Softus it looks like the filling loop is still attached - which means that it has been since we moved in, as we've not touched a thing on it except to switch it on. Cold water feed into the boiler is open. On the filling...

    High pressure problem

Could you dumb it down for me a bit? Didn't have to do any refilling myself & don't know if our friend did. Is the cold water feed the same thing as the refilling hose? I've had a look at the installation/maintenance manual & can just about make out which are the gas & water inlets & outlets...

Hi again Maybe should also mention that we've got eight radiators all in. 3 are relatively new (4-5 months old). In addition, we had no problems for nearly 9 months until last week. Thanks again Neil

    High pressure problem

Hi folks We've got a Ravenheat TS100T (The White Star, apparently) - 3 years old when my girlfriend & moved in last March. We started having problems a few days ago where the pressure would go up to 4 bar, then the RCD would trip on our circuit breaker. The radiators would not heat up...

    Getting paint off bricks

Hi I have just bought a house and having a terrible time trying to get all the jobs done. In the living room the firplace has been taken back to the brick (about the size of a standard fire surround). You can see the brick around the fireplace and in the opening. It has been painted, I don't...

Can I increase the size of my alcoves?

Thanks for your advice It doesn't sound good does it. If the work was carried out, would having the flue lined make a difference to the amount of masonry required around it? We have high ceilings (about 11 ft) and the wardrobes are only 6ft high so I wouldn't need to reduce the chimney breast...
