electrical/fire regulations for electrical equipment in loft

cool, that's good news then. I hadn't thought about potential condensation etc. - the sloping bits aren't insulated and it will probably get pretty hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There is no floor in the loft (just joists over the ceiling panels) so I have to walk on the joists...

electrical/fire regulations for electrical equipment in loft

I want to put a power socket in my loft; the idea is that I want to have a computer running up there (as a server so I can back stuff up onto it etc. and hopefully it wouldn't get nicked if someone breaks into my house). My loft isn't boarded etc., though it is insulated and wouldn't be...

    digging up a tree stump

Once I'd chopped through all the roots the bits that were left were no thicker than a centimetre or two. I pulled a few of them out while digging over the rest of the lawn (as preparation for laying new turf) but left most of them behind as they were pretty deep. So far nothing has sprung up...

Filling gaps in wooden floorboards - silicone sealant?

About a year and a half ago we had our floorboards sanded, and the guy who did it filled the gaps with what I think was sawdust mixed with something. This looks fine but has fallen out in some places leaving gaps which are a bit draughty. I've tried filling some of them with brown decorator's...

how to repair broken neff electric oven door

that's good news, I'll give araldite a shot. I think I should be able to insert a bit of wire or something to help hold it together rather than relying on araldite alone, hopefully will help reinforce it.

how to repair broken neff electric oven door

I've got a fairly old (about 8-10 years) neff electric oven (standalone under-counter single electric fan assisted oven, conventional, not microwave - sorry don't know what the model is, it doesn't say on it). It works fine, except that part of the door handle has broken off. Because of the...

    laying a patio

great, that clears things up a lot I'm glad about the broken bricks - I dug up so much rubble from the garden, the place looked like a quarry and I had nowhere else to put it except under the patio-to-be...

    laying a patio

I'm going to put a patio into my garden. I've dug out a pit for it and dumped a load of broken bricks which I found elsewhere in the garden into it (there wasn't really anywhere else to put them, so I figured bury them under the patio to act as some sort of sub-base - was that a stupid idea?)...

    digging up a tree stump

I dug it up myself in the end - luckily only had to go down about 2 feet. I needed an axe to chop through a couple of the roots in order to pull the thing out though. It took about 3 hours in the end, but I think I was quite lucky that it wasn't rooted too deeply.

    digging up a tree stump

The previous owners of my house helpfully left a tree stump in the middle of the lawn. It was cut off at ground level so pokes through the grass, and is about 9 inches in diameter. I was hoping to get rid of it so I can lay new turf down. I spent sunday afternoon digging around it to a depth...

    fixing crap fence

the post is wobbly. I've managed to persuade the bloke who did it to come back and put more concrete around the base, hopefully this will sort things out

    fixing crap fence

they were 8 foot posts and it looks like they are about 2 feet into the ground though which should be ok shouldn't it? If they are two shallow I take it there's not much I can do though...

    fixing crap fence

I had a garden fence put in recently but looks like they did a crap job - it seems a bit wobbly even though it's meant to have been concreted in (maybe the concrete hasn't dried yet? however it was put in 3 days ago and it hasn't rained since then so I'm not sure about that). I doubt I can get...

fitting trellis on top of an existing fence

I'd like to fit trellis (3ft) on top of an existing 3ft wooden fence. Trouble is that the fence posts are only slightly higher than the fence so I figured I'd probably need to find a way of extending them so that they can support the trellis. I saw some metpost fence post extenders in B&Q -...
