Hi guys has anyone else had the problem of there gloss creeping onto the adjoining emulsion walls when doing architraves and frames etc ? its so annoying you cut it in perfect and within 5 minutes its crept and looks crap and you need to cut the emulsion back in, ive only starting to notice...

where did you get it from in the end mate ?

although you may get away with leaving it on ,and some papers claim that the backing is fine to paper back over , I would always strip it all off and start again its the only way to be sure you've got a sound surface to repaper on :D

assuming this is softwood were talking about ! i wouldnt bother with aluminium primer myself as it can be a bit of a pain to cover with with white especially on sharp edges, i would go one of 2 ways , for both make sure your nail and screw holes are filled then sanded back , then apply...

just one thing i wouldn,t go near it with an 80 grade sandpaper between coats , use a 240 or 320 grade aluminium oxide paper or wet and dry etc , imo of course :D

if your going for the "graham and brown" flat backed superfresco type paper then it should work well as a temp cover/tidy up for now , as even when its been painted a few times it's still fairly easy to strip in the future ,the front should peel off just leaving the backing paper will will...

the render will be fine , you dont want to trap any moisture in it by painting ,if it's still a bit wet

the way i'd go in a bathroom assuming the new plaster is properly dry is, 2 thin coats of a contract type emulsion thinned 20/40 % , followed by 2 coats of dulux acrylic eggshell also thinned with just a splash of water just to aid application, :D

cutting it in by brush is the best way mate, with masking tape not only do you run the risk of pulling paint off on removal but paint usually creeps behind even with the low tack easy mask types . the plastic guides wont sit tight to the edge as walls are rarely dead flat and paint will get...

it may well be ok ,i'd do a test area to find out ,and if it's still happening go down the undercoat route :D

if the putty is rock hard mate and not loose ,give it a good rub down and rub some more putty into the cracks ,once its had a couple of coats of undercoat and a coat of gloss it should be fine :D

its your emulsion cracking on the caulk mate :wink: run a thin coat of oil based undercoat over where youve caulked let it dry for 24hrs and give it another couple of thin coats of emulsion and it should be fine
