Would it help if I also just empty out the expansion tank, so that if I don't get a tight seal at the cold feed connector, then it's not so much of a problem?
Isolation valves ound like a good idea, so I don't need to go through this again!
Thanks
Brian
Thanks 45yearsagasman
I found the 10mm compression caps just after I posted, so will get one of those.
Re the expansion tank, if I follow your instructions then I will:
1. turn off the cold feed to the tank,
2. put a bung in the tank at the exit pipe to stop any feed from the tank to...
Hello all
Last night, I removed a radiator from my kitchen, since it is going to make room for some kitchen units.
I intend to put in an under cabinet central heating kickboard radiator at some point, so wanted to keep the feed and return pipes and the valves as they were.
So, I used a...
Thanks Chris and Space Cat
Have measured flow rate at the dishwasher (2.4l in 10 seconds) and at the tap (1.0l in 10 seconds).
So, looks like a tap repair or a new one is on the cards.
Thanks for the replies.

Hi all - I hope that I can get some help with a water pressure problem I have.
Background is that I bought a 1907 farmhouse last year and, during the winter had frozen supply pipes into the house. The mains supply is cast iron until it hits our boundary, then turns to 32mm MDPE as it runs...
Hi all
Thanks for the replies and thoughts. I hadn't thought about putting another flashing over the existing one. I'm not sure how that would be secured above the slates. The prevailing wind would be driving into the leading edge above the slates, so the risk would be that water could get...
Hello all. I have a roof problem that I'm hoping I can get some advice on.
I have a two floor 1907 farmhouse that has a ground floor gable end extension. The extension has a slate roof and the abutment between the extension roof and the wall of the main farmhosue is weatherproofed by lead...
Thanks for the replies. Plasterer said to give it a week before painting.
After a week, I thought that there was still some more drying to do, since I hadn't got a unifrm colour. So I gave it another week before painting. I thought that would be ok, since I'd given it twice his...
Hi all
I recently had a local plasterer do some repairs to a wall in my utility room. The upper part of the wall was fine and didn't need any work - but the lower part needs to have some rough areas and channels repaired.
I asked the plasterer whether I needed to mist coat the new plaster...
Wish it was £250 to upgrade the pipe. But we're in a rural location with a private supply pipe from the main which is two fields away. So need a lot of pipe and a lot of digging!
£5k might be toppy, but it's not ogin to be cheap!
Hi all
Looking to se if anyone has any experience of using a Grundfos Homepump, like the one in the link:
http://www.bhl.co.uk/product/GRUNDFOS_HOME_BOOSTER_SET_COLD_WATER_37_BAR_PUMP
My water pressure and flow rates aren't good enough for an unvented cylinder, since the private pipe...
Hi all
Need some help and advice with the roof of my 1907 farmhouse. Bought the house last August and have a slate roof that buts up to keystones on the main part of the house. Also have a gable end extension that also has a slate roof.
So, have the following problems:
1. On the main...

Hi all - would be graetful for any help with the following:
I currently have a hot water system that I inherited when I moved into my house about 5 months ago. I have a Grants outdoor oil fired boiler which has two pairs of feed and return pipes. These pipes appear to seperately heat the...
Thanks - shall get pump and actuator details and post tomorrow.
Re the white pipe to the radiators - very confused - I thought that since there's 2 pipes to each radiator, there'd be 2 pipes to the main 22mm pipes - is there another one that I'm missing? :?
Shall hunt for the drain...
