I doubt it! I tinker with electronics and other engineering but I've not done much with boilers until recently.
Unfortunately after all this my boiler is still exhibiting pressure issues which is what started my experiments in the first place. (Pressure loss every day, pressure spiking during...
So here is a tutorial on how to diagnose and replace parts on a Riello RDB type burner. I am not an expert but hopefully the following can prove useful to others in the future.
WARNING: Do not attempt any of this unless you are suitably competent. This is not intended as professional advice and...
Update: bought a replacement control box and fitted it. Boiler fired up first time. Seems to be running OK now.
The old control box presumably failed in some way, although visually it looks pristine. I assume something on the PCB got fried when the capacitor leaked. I probably didn't need to...
Bought a new fan motor (with capacitor) today and have just replaced it, only to find the same fault remains!!!!!!
Again the burner flashes red for 2s then orange for 0.5s, which indicates a fan motor fault.
What should be my next step? Replace the burner control box or a whole new burner...
Shock update: I replaced the capacitor and the fault still persists. The burner is still flashing red / orange which indicates a fan motor fault.
I'm not sure if I should try another capacitor or just bite the bullet and buy a replacement motor. I thought the motors were fairly reliable so find...
So after double-checking everything and bleeding all radiators without any success, I started to think it might actually be a problem with the burner.
I bled the pump; plenty of oil and no air in the line.
I noticed the burner's reset button LED was flashing red then orange. According to the...
If it is airlocked, how would I remove the air? I thought I had bled all the air points including the pump head itself. Maybe I need to do it for longer?
P.S. I also bled the pump screw until it bled water.
P.P.S I read that the lockout error is usually related to air in the oil line. I find this unlikely in my case because I didn't touch the burner or oil line at all. However, I was going to try bleeding the oil line anyway but can't figure...
Hi all
I have a Greenstar Heatslave II oil boiler circa 2015.
The AAV and PRV both needed replacing which I have just done myself. I thought I did everything by the book, but now the boiler is stuck in lockout and won't even try to fire the burner.
Here's what I did exactly:
1. Closed CH...
Totally serious question: aside from the obvious risk of falling - why not?
People working on their own roofs is honestly not an uncommon thing to see, around here at least.
Growing up it wasn't unusual for me to help my dad on our slate tiled roof on a tall 2.5-storey house, without any PPE...
My roof is really steep and needs quite a bit of manual work done on it.
I've got a ladder with roof hooks but I'd prefer to be able to move around the roof more freely but would rather not slip and fall.
I already have a professional climbing harness and rope so I'm wondering if anyone has...
Thank you everyone for the really helpful replies. I'm going to cost up the project and think about when I can start. Might be a job best left until spring now, but I'll post updates if anyone's interested.
Yes I am. Does that affect any building codes or similar?
Yes that's the idea. Just something to make the ceiling look less grungy. I did think about cladding the trusses although it'd be very tedious and I'm guessing hardwood would be too expensive. Paint would probably do, or if worst comes...
A few updates:
1. Turns out the roof is already boarded with OSB on top of the trusses!
2. The trusses are at 600mm centres.
3. Here are a couple of pics showing the trusses and some bracing:
Yes they are.
They're about 4m across if that's what you mean?
Yeah it would probably be...
