    Replacement Crittals

I've seen this topic elsewhere, but no replies, so hoping I might get better luck! I have classic steel Crittal windows in the main bays of my 1921-built house. As we all know, they look lovely, but they are now slightly warped and in cold weather with recent energy prices have probably...

    Is this a forum member?

I wonder who that guy is shouting "Close the water!" to? No-one else in my house would even know where the stopcock is, never mind what it did.

    Light Switch

Hello all, just to close this thread off: as the switch was on a 16mm slim patten box there wasn't room for a terminal block on the switch I bought, I bought another better quality switch with a fourth "loop" terminal which avoided the need for a connector on the neutrals. I connected the two...

    Light Switch

bernardgreen Thanks also - this makes sense. Connecting the blacks to the "Com" would clearly cause a short. Now realising I've been a complete tool. Happens as you get older I think.

    Light Switch

Thanks for all the replies and sorry for taking so long to come back on - several late nights at work! At the moment I have just terminated the wires into a push-block so the lights are working fine. I think Taylortwocities probably hit the nail on the head. I might have mixed up double-gang...

    Light Switch

Evening everyone, hope yo are all okay. After a few googles I'm hoping a guru on here will easily spot what I'm doing wrong with the light switch I've just changed. I've done plenty of electrics in the past with no problem, but getting a bit rusty now clearly. A lamp blew and zapped the dimmer...

    Think I screwed up...

Yeah that’s my concern. I think it wiuld be strong enough, but after 2 years in all weather I reckon I would start to feel the strength going. And if there’s hot tub on it then won’t be easy to replace. I’ve been thinking about buying a workbench recently, think I will carve up to OSD a make...

    Nails or bolts

There’s no aluminium involved so I don’t get why I would need that. Hangers are zinc plated, bolts are zinc plated, lock nuts and washers stainless. From what I’ve read the cathodic reaction is minimal and doesn’t merit additional protection.

    Strongtie Joist hangar query

I’d love to know where 47mm comes from. It’s not a 2x4 because that would be 51mm wide. Is it a European thing? 47mm is close to 1 7/8” so maybe that’s it. Anyhoo it’s a pain in the arse.

    Think I screwed up...

    18mm 400mm joist spacing.

    Think I screwed up...

I thought about a large enough piece of epdm to cover the area. That would certainly keep the OSB dry, drier than felt on a roof even.

    Think I screwed up...

Sorry just to add for clarity, it is Sterling Type 3 OSB from Nordboard.

    Think I screwed up...

This isn't actually a screw-up yet, but might become one. I decided to save money by using type 3 OSB for a decking as it's going to be covered with fake grass so won't be seen. After a bit of reading I thought that type 3 was waterproof rather than just water-resistant, but an experienced mate...

    Lockdown Project & Stratarise

Tubs are getting in very short supply with everyone having the same idea. Summer holiday cancelled? Hot tub staycation. I went for the Aquatub 100 which is a US-made 13/32A which for me had just the right amount of bells and whistles without being stupid. Regarding the foundation pads, yes I...

    Nails or bolts

Actually guys, don't know I missed this on the BPC website, referring to multi-truss joist hangers: Quote: "Use 30 x 3.75mm sheradised square twisted nails in all pre-punched holes, together with bolts in Multi Truss Hanger range where required. Stainless steel hangers are available to order."...
