Drained battery after power cut - can't now stop alarm sound

No other option in the circumstances without knowledge of how to stop the alarm mate so "making things worse" is not correct - the alarm is now off - job done. There was no power on so the fuse will not have blown. The only damage is carefully cut wires that need reconnecting once I have the...

Drained battery after power cut - can't now stop alarm sound

The power was off on the alarm circuit for over 24hrs - then the alarm went off. I typed in the code several times but it would not stop and went on for over an hour (I thought it would stop after 20 mins). So I opened the indoor keypad box and removed the battery. The outside alarm stayed...

Gas regulations regarding hob to kitchen wall unit spacing

Next question: if the cooker hood instructions say it can be installed 650mm above a gas hob, would a gas hob installer be correct to refuse to fit the hob saying that the hood should be installed at 760mm?

Gas regulations regarding hob to kitchen wall unit spacing

Just drew this up to show what seems to be perfectly OK after all. Hob aligns with hood which is 760mm above hob. Wall units are 460mm off the worktop but in line with the hob. I would only need to space items 50mm sideways away from the hob if they are less than 460mm above the hob.

Gas regulations regarding hob to kitchen wall unit spacing

So according to this bulletin the 50mm either side of the hob does not apply to wall units above 460mm but rather it applies to cabinetry alongside the hob. You need to have anything directly above the gas hob at least 760mm off the worktop but wall units inline with the edge of the hob but...

Gas regulations regarding hob to kitchen wall unit spacing

If asked to replace kitchen wall units over a hob, I am told that you need to observe new regulations regarding gas installations. (Does anyone know what year these came into effect?) These seem to be that the hood should be 760mm above a gas hob and there should not be combustable materials...

Second hand heat exchanger - is it worth trying?

9 yrs ago there were two adults and two children here but the children grew up so we now have 4 adults. The problem has been everyone wanting a shower at the same time.

Second hand heat exchanger - is it worth trying?

We did have a conventional boiler when we moved in here but when it broke a friend of the family fitted us a combi as he said it would save us money (the cold tank in the loft was removed). However we have a 4 bed semi with four adults and the combi caused us problems with the shower but we...
