    Thanks for info! Well after ALOT of sanding the doors are now back to bare pine, although still slightly stained. I have to say I quite like the effect (almost tortoise shell) so will probably be coating them with clear matt varnish.

    Thanks John I would almost guarantee the floor/ceiling voids pass through the dividing wall. If so it is worth trying to fill them with mineral wool as well?

    Many thanks for the reply and the recommended products. To answer your question yes they do have carpet but they were 'thinking' about installing rubber underlay.
