    "Leaking" electric heater false fire.

I've had this heater for years, and its never done this before. There is no chimney. The liquid is odourless. There is a low wattage bulb whose heat spins a turbine to create the flickering, all below an orange plastic cover. Everything still works. Wiped it up, and no recurrence. No chance...

What type insulation above shop suspended ceiling?

I wasn't sure which forum - "Building" didn't seem appropriate. I'll have to get an EPC for this shop at some stage and I assume I can improve the score by insulating above the ceiling. Its in a Victorian three storey terrace building, and the flat above has insulation bales below its...

Aqualisa Visage out of control - MENDED

I've reached the same conclusion. This Aqualisa was an experiment really. I agree that as long as there's sufficient head pressure, future installations will be as you recommend. Cheers - braniff

Aqualisa Visage out of control - MENDED

Aqualisa tech support were basically a sales team. I was told the fault would be in the processor, for which of course no spares were available and they'd superseded it with the orange housing version. I could therefore have a complete upgraded version of the same shower for about £750. As for...

Aqualisa Visage out of control - MENDED

About 10 years old. generally v pleased with it apart from chrome peeling off the pipe at the 4 year point (they replaced the pipe at no charge). A couple of times in the last few months I've found it won't turn on, and after cycling the breaker on the CU it worked agin. Last couple of...

    Shower drain pipe clearance method?

Postscript - I "rodded" the pipe with the flexible coil, which came out clean (although I had the water running at the time). No sign of any gunge, although the waste does drain faster now so I must have dislodged something. I then remembered I have a cheap smartphone endoscope. rather more...

    Shower drain pipe clearance method?

Its a plastic trap / waste in the shower tray from which I can take the lid off then a tube and cup out. Not sure what they're called. Leads into about 5 feet of 40 mm solvent-weld pipe to the soil stack, with a 45˚ bend in the middle. I get the feeling this might be gradually sludging up...

    Steel garage door painting

All the threads I've read have the "this thread was x years ago..." caution at the end so here's a new one. 1995 vintage up and over. I've rubbed down the outside, down to bare metal in a few small areas. I assume I've therefore gone through the galvanised coating and wonder what to apply to...

    uPVC rubber seal search

Thanks Johnny A. If by epdm foam you're looking at the edge of the door, its the same seal as on the inside, but crushed, perished and dirty.

uPVC window bottom rail sagging. Solution?

Lesson learnt - don't spec them too wide. These sashes are 113 cm wide. I can take an angle grinder to the point on the frame where they bind, but thats a bodge. Can I expect to be able to squeeze the sash back into shape with a ratchet strap? Levering from below of course puts stress on the...

    uPVC rubber seal search

Here you go. Thanks for taking an interest. That bit is in the centre where both doors close - elsewhere the seal is less crushed. Its about 13 years old I believe. I'd appreciate the name of the cross-section design, i.e. what to ask for, and a source. many Thanks!

    uPVC rubber seal search

After 10 years or so, time to replace. I've seen a couple of youtube vids and they all used the same seal profile. Is it an industry standard? Apart from colour what other choices will I be making - are there different diameters? Many thanks - window novice

    Help identifying a window handle

I got some Winkhaus parts from www.northwesthardware.co.uk who seem to have a huge range and were knowledgable. Might be worth sending them the pic.
