    RCD trip

Hi E, I see! I could set up a switch-over in case of one RCD failing, but it's not worth it, the next time it could trip the main one instead. Thanks, C.

    RCD trip

Hi, As a matter of interest, say an RDC bank trips, leaving an untripped RCD bank, is it possible to make a extension lead with two plugs, each from its own RCB conteolled socket, with one socket, so a freezer could be plugged in, and one RCD bank could drop out but the freezer would still be one? Games and pranks to play

Hi, I've had lots of jobs since the 60s, and one of the pranks was being sent to the stores for a 'long stand'. After the first time I got wise to it, then when being sent I'd wander off and waste 1/2 hour, and I used to laugh inside when I got back and they were all laughing at me :) C

    RCD trip

Hi E, Ok, thanks, I'll empty the crumbs :) I have different types of radio, and may be able to hear noisy switches, I suppose this may do it. This has reminded me about the light switches, when the re-wiring electrician used lower quality switches, which sometimes feel lazy when switched, I...

Hi P, At first it wouldn't switch back on, then did switch on. I've used the toaster since, no problem. C

Insulating and waterproofing external bathroom wall

Hi, I'm no expert, but insulated downstairs walls 100mm foam. Ad as I was also doing building work, I needed building control, who made me add battens, and through the wall (4 1/2 inch) ventilation, for the condensation on the wall side of the insulation to escape. C

    RCD trip

Hi, I have an RCD that tripped, that covers the kitchen. I read other similar posts, and eliminated the boiler, outside socket, shower, as they are on a different RCD. The toaster has a touchy heat switch, could this have cause it. (I don't think it was used at the time, but not sure) Is there...

    Draft from Door

Hi R, Yes, and I've moved the lock bar as far as it will go. Regarding gasket: There is a round beading glued onto the door, and I don't think it will come off easily. I could try and see if I can either pack it out or buy another beading/gasket, just for the bottom 1/2 of the door. Thanks C.

Do I need the architect to submit to planning?

Hi F, I recently used planning permission, and wanted to use my idea, instead of the convention, I chatted to an architect (no cost), told the building inspector, and they let me use my idea. As long as the job is done within the guidlines, and sensible, also depending on good honest...

Do I need the architect to submit to planning?

Hi N, I'm a complete amateur, so take this with a pinch of salt! I would submit the plans, and BC, will tell you if you need anything. In my experience, their first visit irons out most of the sticking points. Be prepared! You've go nothing to loose. C

    Draft from Door

Hi, Somebody (Me) fitted my backdoor, and twisted the frame a little, so now there's an 1/8" gap at the bottom, which cases a draft. (I know what I did wrong, but that's in the past now!) Anyway, is there a way, without moving the frame, to stop the drafts, please? Plastic door/frame. C.
