    Loft conversion advice

I'll have to check, I think there are vents in the soffit at the eaves, no idea about the ridge. Not actually moving into the property until Friday. I do have an electrician willing to check and sign off on the electrics. Thanks for the guide, will have a read through it! I get what you're...

    Loft conversion advice

Obviously I'm still learning but from what I understand so far, as long as I leave a 50mm gap between the roof felt and the insulation between the rafters then ventilation should be OK, is this not the case?

    Loft conversion advice

I think I'll be able to get the majority of it up through what will be the new staircase, before I fit the stairs. I do have some much more experienced relatives/friends I can call on if(when) I get stuck. If you can see the plans in my first post, I think the only place I can fit the stairs...

    Loft conversion advice

I'll start by making sure I've got everything I need on site when I need it, before I start each aspect of the work.

    Loft conversion advice

I'm confident I can do the actual 'work' but yeah the regs seem to be a bit of a minefield! I'll admit I would be a lot more hesitant to attempt it if I had roof trusses!

    Loft conversion advice

Cheers guys. I have found a local architect that does a free consultation and feasibility check, will get in touch with him and take it from there. How hard can it be? I've fitted bathrooms, kitchens, windows, built a raised decking area, designed and built a shed. Only DIY job I have done...

    Loft conversion advice

Planning on a loft conversion, it might take me a year or 5 to complete but I want to do the work myself, I enjoy building/making stuff and obviously it'll be cheaper than getting a builder in to do it. I want to do it properly with building regulations all correct and signed off etc. Seems a...

    Annoying tap, pressure issue.

It's a mixture of the old copper and new plastic that I have used. I don't believe there could be anything trapped inside, everything was new and the install was straightforward. I will try and see if I can direct the pipe into a bucket one night this week. The valve does stop the flow of water...

    Annoying tap, pressure issue.

No it's not on a flexi pipe. I'm not sure I can try that without making a mess. Nothing else has changed with the plumbing and the old tap didn't used to do this. Do you think the tap could be faulty or is it possible it's just designed for a lower pressure?

    Annoying tap, pressure issue.

Sorry I meant isolation valve not check valve. I can take a pic if really necessary but I'll have to take the unit apart. I've attached a pic of the valve used below. They don't have a flow direction marked on them and they're mounted vertically. I have used them on the basin and bath taps...

    Annoying tap, pressure issue.

So I fitted a new bathroom and I'm having an issue with my basin tap, whenever you open it fully it pulsates and the banging noise can be heard all over the house and next door! When I plumbed everything in I used inline check valves on all of the taps, I've tried leaving it partially closed...

    Posts for raised decking

Cheers Nige, So you think the steel will be better, I wasn't sure with it being only 2.5mm thick, I didn't know how long it would take to rust away and snap under the weight!

    Posts for raised decking

Hi guys I'm planning a raised decking area on a sloped garden, the back of the deck will be ground height and the front about 400mm off the ground, area is 4000×4800mm. Looking for opinions on supports, I have some lengths of mild steel channel, 50×100×50mm which is 2.5mm thick, would this be...

Radiators getting hot when CH turned off

Well I've had a look around and can't find it anywhere easily accessible :( There are some uneven floorboards in our main bedroom and landing, which look like they have been lifted and not put back very well so I'm hoping it's under there somewhere, should be able to have a look at the weekend!
