Adding sockets to downstairs ring + possible spur query.

Thank you for the replies. The black sockets are what are here currently. That FCU has always been there, it's in my neighbours house as well - they're not sure what it's for and have been the sole owners of their house. Where the blue sockets are proposed to go, was a gas fire/mantle...

Adding sockets to downstairs ring + possible spur query.

We've had a fire taken out of our living room, that we didn't use - in place of it I'm going to wall-mount a TV. Our TV & existing home entertainment kit is in the left hand corner of our living room - with everything running off 2 x 4-gang extension leads (surge protected). It's a right mess...

Earthing Main Water Pipe - Hot & Gas needed too?

hehe :) It's old, chipped - found it in the garage when we bought the house. I can see the MDPE come in the house (i.e. through the kitchen floor). - it then goes from 20mm MDPE -> copper -> stopcock - then copper throughout. All the houses around here have it - not sure if it's acting as...

Earthing Main Water Pipe - Hot & Gas needed too?

Right, thanks - I've had a note from my gas supplier saying my gas mains isn't bonded - and that's now recommended.. Would it be adequate enough to re-bond the mains water as it was before, then from there, bond down to my gas pipe?

Earthing Main Water Pipe - Hot & Gas needed too?

Hello, Have converted a kitchen into a kitchen/diner, as such we have knocked down a wall, and moved where the sink was, etc. My query is, when re-bonding the earth wire to the mains water supply, do I need to bond it to the hot water pipe, and gas pipe too? It wasn't before, but my...

Water heater for animal - outside

I was planning on plugging the water heater into an extension cord, and running that to my outdoor socket. My chicken run is in a seperate garden, ~10-15m away from where the socket is I'd guess. That's what I meant about wrapping the extension cord socket -> waterheater plug in plastic -...

Water heater for animal - outside

Im sure they probably would prefer soup :) Have just seen this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Outdoor-Extension-pressure-feature-electric/dp/B001EP4GG4 if that'd fit in my w/p socket would that be a better bet than using "normal" flex?

Water heater for animal - outside

Sorry mixed your reply up with the previous one. Whilst we're at home, I'm happy to go out a couple times a day and give them fresh water, it's only really for whilst we're going to pop away at some point over winter - I just want to ensure that the water will be fine (not frozen). I've a...

Water heater for animal - outside

Thanks, I was planning to wrap it in plastic, or something similar - wasn't aware they sold such units, so I'll pop down tonight and have a look :) Edit: Ah, just checked the site, it says 13A plug - which is why I assumed the fuse would be 13A.. perhaps its not, I'll found out :) Edit2...

Water heater for animal - outside

Hello. I have an outdoor, weather proof socket fed from a socket inside, via a FSCU. It's currently got a 13A fuse in it. I'm wanting to get a water heater for chickens that I have out in my garden. If required, link to it is here...

    Spur query

Thanks folks - just after I posted this I spoke with him again, and he's pretty much said the same as you all (in theory, the circuit is fine) - but when I re-iterated that they will most likely be both on at the same time (two young kids means a lot of nappy washing, and the washing up is just...

    Spur query

Have just read this: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=126081 Now I'm a bit confused - is what my friend is proposing alright? I've re-asked for confirmation and he says its fine. Thanks.

    Spur query

Just wanted to ask something else. My sparky friend had advised putting in a 13A switched fused socket (completed), whilst we were there the single socket above the work top that feeds the switched fused socket was changed to a double. He's advised now that the single socket below the...
