No it's not a party wall, there is however a gate hung off the other side of it.
Perhaps this could be causing the clicks? But then how would me pushing against the plasterboard on the inside also cause the click to occur?
It's one of the side walls of our house and it appears to be plaster board on the inside, so I guess that'll be nailed onto a wooden frame?
The house was built in 1980 if that's any help? :)
I have a very strange problem in that I keep hearing metallic clicking sounds from one of the walls in the living room. The sound happens all year round and happens at all hours of the day. It also happens when the central heating is off (haven't had it on at all over the past few weeks and the...
So I filled a hole in my drive with cold lay macadam / tarmac that I got from wickes (I prepped properly with aggregate underneath). I used about 7 bags of the stuff as it was a fairy wide hole, I put down around 2 inches of tarmac in depth. 4 months later and the stuff is still soft. I read...

I've just had another idea...
Would it be better to just use a joist hanger and hang an extra joist off one of the landing joists that run perpendicular to the joist that would support the stud wall.
Please see the attached picture to see what I mean :)
Hi all,
I'm planning on surrounding my landing with a stud wall (replacing what was a banister).
If I were to build straight off the existing outer joist (below where the previous banister sat), I would not meet the 900mm minimum width required for building regs.
The width of that section of...
Thanks for the response Foxhole.
I've done a bit more thinking today and in order to keep things simple, I've decided to compromise on the sound insulation slightly and just go with a thinner stud wall.
I'm now thinking to just build a 2" x 2" frame directly on top of the joist, put 12.5mm...
Hi all,
I want to replace the banister around my landing upstairs with a couple of stud walls so I can essentially create a separate enclosed space upstairs. Part of the stud wall that needs building cannot be built directly on top of the existing subfloor, as there would not be enough space on...
Please note that I'm posting this question just to get a better idea of what the problem could be and how much I should expect to pay a professional to fix this issue for me, I do not intend to try and fix this problem myself...
