Existing doorbell cabling for video doorbell

Finally got this installed. I decided to use all three pairs of what turned out to be 0.4mm telephone wire. All seems to be working well and not a hint of heat from the cable etc. One thing I did want to check though is after removing the old bell push, the wire was too short so needed...

Existing doorbell cabling for video doorbell

Thanks for the reply. I can't seem to find any chime/transformer combo that can do more than 8v, if there are any you know of I'd be very interested. I could wire up a separate transformer and install next to a dedicated chime but it'll be a bit uglier as its currently high up on the wall in...

Existing doorbell cabling for video doorbell

I'm looking to install a video doorbell in replacement of a standard push button/backlit one. The existing externa transformer/chime unit is only 6VAC so its not suitable, so I was going to swap it for a byron 776 (8v 1amp) combo unit instead. The doorbell can work in the range of 8-24VAC /...

Grounding a cellular antenna in attic

This particular antenna has a completely plastic shell apart from the metal heatsink on the back for passive cooling, screws and a small metal plate under the cover by the ethernet port (where there is threaded sleeve for an M4 screw to connect an earth/ground). I have another one of thier...

Grounding a cellular antenna in attic

The sockets were installed by a local qualified electrician to power one very low powered device only and are clearly marked. They haven’t been in use for quite some time though and I have no intention to. Is the concern there it tripping the lighting mcb? Or safety/fire reasons? Just curious.

Grounding a cellular antenna in attic

thanks both for the replies. There are no copper water pipes nearby in the attic. It’s a new(ish) build with a combi boiler so everything is fed from below. We do have some sockets spurred off the lighting circuit (3amp fused) that are not far away… would that be a reasonable earth point to see...

Grounding a cellular antenna in attic

I wish to install a small LTE antenna/router (https://mikrotik.com/product/atl18) in my attic to get a more stable signal. The device requires power via POE which will be fed from a 12v injector in the house. I was planning to mount the device via a small adjustable pole mount to the boarded...

    Simple plug question

Thanks all for your comments, I didn't think anyone would reply tbh Saved me further pain trying to track down a unicorn cable or just using an extension.

    Simple plug question

gah just checked the connector on the PS5 shipped one, 2.5a for the C7 Didn't think it had anything stamped on it. Why would you fit a 5a fuse when one of the connectors is only rated to 2.5a? Isn't that a risk in itself?

    Simple plug question

Well, if you believe the marking then at this point I have 3 cables, all stamped BS1363.... the PS5 one, which has 5a/250v on it and two others which have 3a/250v. All have BS1363 on. Really confusing. If the C7 connector is only rated to 2.5a anyway then that explains why I've been having...

    Simple plug question

Hiya, hope this is ok to ask this here... I recently purchased what was listed as a 13a plug, with a 3a fuse (C7 2 pin power cable). On the plug itself its stamped 3a/250a (in a circle). I was planning to drop in a 5a fuse (what the supplied PS5 power cable has) but that stamping on the plug...

Edge of tiles slightly visible after resealing

Hiya. We recently had our shower resealed by a plumber and today I noticed I can see the edge of what I guess is cut tiles in the corner in a small section towards the bottom where the walls meet (red edges). Is this likely to cause problems? I don't care if it's cosmetic but obviously am more...

Replacing 12v AC halogen light with 24V DC transformer

Thanks for the reply. No cable fitted, just the usual 2 AC 240v in and 2 DC 24v out. A cable was supplied to connect on the DC side with the correct fitting for the hue controller box. ^ the current transformer, I was just going to swap it in place. If its safer/better to add a junction I...

Replacing 12v AC halogen light with 24V DC transformer

Our house was built back in 2013 and one of the cupboards in the kitchen was fitted with a 12v AC halogen light and transformer controlled via a wall switch. It is only supplied with a brown/blue cable from the wall. I wish to replace it with a transformer to power some hue lights that requires...

    Nest install sanity check

Ok will give my trusted plumber/heating engineer a call. Seems a bit strange to call a heating guy for a wiring job but I get it not worth risking anything especially as it's in the bedroom
