Protecting Timber Frame during build stage

I suspected this would be questioned, unfortunately having a full time job only leaves evenings and weekends to complete this job single handedly. Even with an army of people I would struggle to assemble, clad and tile an extension in a day.....

Protecting Timber Frame during build stage

Hi, Just about to start constructing my timber frame extension and due to space limitations on site and time, I will need to construct the frame in situ. I do plan on covering what I can of the extension and frame in sheeting to protect it from the elements, but as the build may take a few...

Reason for encasing drainage pipes in concrete ?

Thanks, so if the existing drain pipes are laid in pea shingle underground and between the pipes and raft is type 1, soil and clay, then I presume they are ok left as is as any movement on the raft will be absorbed by the materials in between the pipes and raft, thanks

Reason for encasing drainage pipes in concrete ?

Can someone tell me the reason for encasing drainage pipes in concrete when they run under an extension. Is this for structural reasons, i.e. the possible loading on the pipes. I presume its nothing to do with possible leakage ? I am constructing a raft foundation and have found storm water...

    Soakaway Query over raft ?

Ok traced all drainage pipework and there is no soak away located under the proposed extension, its just the pipework runs below this. As the raft is appropx 500mm above this pipework I presume having the pipework below the extension is ok ?

    Soakaway Query over raft ?

Just in process of digging out for a raft for foundations to my extension. I have discovered the soak away passes directly under the extension. I need to keep digging to see if it clears the extension and if it doesn't then I will need to relocate it. My only worry is that removing the soak away...

groundwork to support mesh reinforcement for raft ?

thats whats I thought, although there are specific products to elevate the mesh by 50mm from base, there must be cheaper and equally as suitable solutions for this. Gonna go ahead a whack down the type 1 anyway and see where that leaves my levels before deciding next move.....thanks all.

groundwork to support mesh reinforcement for raft ?

I've already got 5 tonne of type 1 sitting on the drive, the thing is the ground is also very hard clay which the digger struggled to get through, can't see anything sinking into that thing, so thinking just put the type 1 down, whack it, then mesh on top leaving out lean mix blinding. Otherwise...

groundwork to support mesh reinforcement for raft ?

Hi Just dug out over the weekend in prep for the raft foundation of my extension. I have a question regarding details under the raft. The SE has drawn 100mm of Type 1 and the 75mm of lean mix blinding on top of type 1, all underneath the raft. Can anyone tell me why the blinding is necessary...

Timber Frame on Slab foundation, soleplate connection ?

In the process of constructing a Timber Frame extension and as part of the planning stage I am looking at the foundation construction. All the calcs have been completed by a SE and I'm ready to go. I have a query over the connection of the timber frame (145mm wide) to the soleplate and raft...
